"Great. Ian installed a new dimmer switch, rewired a ceiling fixture and installed a new fixture. Ian was nicely dressed. Used "booties" when walking thru house. Cleaned up any messes he made. He was very pleasant to talk to and explained what the problems were and how he would fix them."

"Oliver Beer came promptly, analyzed the problem, gave us a price to do the work and a date that he would be able to start. We had purchased the replacement windows, as my husband was going to do the work himself. He had removed one window; discovered the framework supporting the old window was rotted beyond his capabilities to repair, and asked me to locate a professional to do the work. Mr. Beer started the replacement work by pulling out the old rotted wood; the old insulation- including moss that had grown up between the wall and the old aluminum siding that has been on this 1940's Cape probably since the 40's. It took him all of the first day just to clean up the window spaces so that he could actually start replacing the framing for the windows. It was a lot of work, and we are very appreciative of his remarkable effort to give us a gorgeous view of our back yard, that we had never had, and improve my bird -watching. Although we had purchased windows that were designed for 'new construction' Mr. Beer said he could make it work and he did. The result is perfectly framed windows that are 'new construction' perfect both inside and out. After each phase of the work, Mr. Beer cleaned up all wood and sawdust and bagged it. He had to leave his equipment in our garage and my husband wanted to be sure it was there safely. The slide bar lock on the garage door didn't lock properly, so my husband had to drill out the connection, Mr. Beer, at his own initiative, fixed the lock that hadn't worked properly in the 25 years we have lived in the house, and we now have a garage door, even though it is old, works properly. His attention to the smallest detail was a delight and was unexpected. To have found a contractor so dedicated to his craft is unheard of these days. We would, and will, hire him to do more work on this old house in the near future. His charge was reasonable for the enormous amount of work he had to do on what should have been a simple window replacement. We are very grateful to him for accepting this awful challenge. I just hope my review doesn't get him a flood of work that is as awful as this one. He deserves to have work that is simple and straight forward."

"Ken and his helper were amazing. Ken came out to recommend and quote light fixtures in our unfinished basement, connect a couple of Ring floodlights, and replace the doorbell transformer and install a new Ring doorbell at my residence. Ken's work is clean, fast, and reasonably priced! I would absolutely hire him again!"

FAQs for ceiling fan repair projects in Hartford, CT

Maintain ceiling fans by cleaning them. They have sealed bearings so they don't usually need any type of lubrication. You'll want to dust the blades regularly, using a vacuum cleaner to get into inaccessible areas. You may want to remove the light cover and clean it out and any exposed areas for dust. You may need to use a wet cleaning solution of some kind, particularly on fans near kitchen areas, where grease buildup mixes with dust to create grime that can destroy your fan.

Common reasons include worn-out components from constant use, loose or faulty wiring, accumulated dirt and grime interfering with moving parts, electronic component failure, and physical damage from impacts. Motor capacitors may fail after years of operation, causing intermittent function or complete failure. Bearing issues can create excessive friction that eventually freezes the motor. Regular maintenance can help prevent these issues.

When a ceiling fan’s motor capacitor fails, it interrupts the essential electrical flow required for the fan’s proper operation. The capacitor is a compact but critical component responsible for initiating and regulating the power surge during startup and continuous operation. Without a functioning capacitor, the fan loses momentum, may experience stuttering speeds, and ultimately ceases to operate completely. Replacing the capacitor immediately restores the normal electrical balance, ensuring that the fan operates safely and efficiently while maintaining its intended airflow and performance levels.

Ceiling fans typically last between five and 15 years, averaging 10 years. Factors affecting lifespan include usage frequency, quality of materials, and routine maintenance. Environmental conditions also impact longevity. Ceiling fans installed in humid bathrooms or outdoor settings generally deteriorate faster than those in climate-controlled living spaces. Regular cleaning and prompt repairs can extend a fan's life and maintain its performance.
