"Mr. Writer Bush is professional, skilled and pleasant. He replaced a ceiling fan, a light fixture and several GFCI outlets. He corrected several shortcuts taken by previous electricians, and explained each safety improvement to me. He asked for approval when needing to exceed the initial quote by $10. I really respect his work and his work ethic. We will hire him again, and I look forward to welcoming him into our home."

"I needed the repair work done.  Called a couple of contractors and D. Frey gave me the best price and was on time to give me an estimate.  The work was done in a timely manner but best of all he DID WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO!"

"Work man responded within a day and came on same day. It was a Saturday. He determined what needed replacement but could not get the baking element that same day as it was later in the afternoon. He called and said he had part on Monday and repaired it successfully that day. He was very courteous and easy to work with and did the repair in a short time. I was very satisfied and my oven is in use again.."

"I contacted Lombardo Restoration on May 15 to purchase an Angie's List Big Deal for $349 to repair and/or replace several electrical outlets in our home which I thought had been damaged as a result of a lightening strike during a recent electrical storm.  Leonard arrived on time May 30 as scheduled.  After inspecting the problem areas he determined that they could be corrected by resetting a GFCI outlet located in our basement storage area that had been hidden by a portable clothes closet.  He offered to accept $50 for correcting the basement problem, $20 for replacing a damaged GFCI outlet in our garage, and refund our $349 Big Deal original purchase price.  Integrity of this nature is a rare commodity these days!  I recommend Lombardo Restoration to anyone in need of electrical expertise from a friendly, competent and honest company!

"Very pleased with the work done. They came out to on time to give the estimate. Within the week we had scheduled the work to be done. They came out on Monday to remove the shutters and the shutters were put back on Wednesday. They stuck with the estimate given even though they had to do some minor repair work on some of the shutters. The shutters look great and for the price we got more than we ask for."

FAQs for ceiling fan repair projects in Detroit, MI

Maintain ceiling fans by cleaning them. They have sealed bearings so they don't usually need any type of lubrication. You'll want to dust the blades regularly, using a vacuum cleaner to get into inaccessible areas. You may want to remove the light cover and clean it out and any exposed areas for dust. You may need to use a wet cleaning solution of some kind, particularly on fans near kitchen areas, where grease buildup mixes with dust to create grime that can destroy your fan.

Common reasons include worn-out components from constant use, loose or faulty wiring, accumulated dirt and grime interfering with moving parts, electronic component failure, and physical damage from impacts. Motor capacitors may fail after years of operation, causing intermittent function or complete failure. Bearing issues can create excessive friction that eventually freezes the motor. Regular maintenance can help prevent these issues.

When a ceiling fan’s motor capacitor fails, it interrupts the essential electrical flow required for the fan’s proper operation. The capacitor is a compact but critical component responsible for initiating and regulating the power surge during startup and continuous operation. Without a functioning capacitor, the fan loses momentum, may experience stuttering speeds, and ultimately ceases to operate completely. Replacing the capacitor immediately restores the normal electrical balance, ensuring that the fan operates safely and efficiently while maintaining its intended airflow and performance levels.

Ceiling fans typically last between five and 15 years, averaging 10 years. Factors affecting lifespan include usage frequency, quality of materials, and routine maintenance. Environmental conditions also impact longevity. Ceiling fans installed in humid bathrooms or outdoor settings generally deteriorate faster than those in climate-controlled living spaces. Regular cleaning and prompt repairs can extend a fan's life and maintain its performance.
