"They installed a 30' x 12' Maintenance Free Patio Cover (360 sq. ft.), and mounted it to our eave. Installation included three (3) support posts all anchored to concrete, gutter, downspout, and roof flashing. It looked very good from the ground. At that point the job looked very professionally done. <br /> The next week we had a ton of rain, and I decided to check the gutter as it was not draining correctly. This allowed me to see other areas I could not see from the ground (roof flashing). The downspout opening was clogged as I expected, however when I cleared the opening I found something not so good. A 1 3/4and quot; round hole was drilled through the gutter that mated with a 2and quot; x 3and quot; rectangular downspout opening. The downspout mount was mounted under the gutter with screws pointing up that kept debris from going down the opening. I took time to look at the flashing, and noticed it was buckled in many areas thus raising the shingles on our new roof. It was a mess, and saw poor workmanship. Naturally I was very concerned. <br /> I called the owner, and told him I was not a happy camper. I then sent him and email, and very good pictures I had taken while on the ladder. It took a week or two (2) for the installer to show up unannounced to quote and quot;...fix the issues..and quot;. The flashing was repaired properly so that the shingles were laying flat. However I was informed the gutter/downspout issue was per the manufacturers engineered requirements. He could not make modifications as it would void the warranty of the patio cover. I was told if I modified the gutter/downspout it would also void the warranty of the patio cover. So my gutter overflows when debris blocks the opening all the time. I will mention that to clear the gutter you will get sheet-metal cuts as the edges of the roof are rough cut, and clearance to access the debris is limited. So it is a real mess cleaning them. I will somehow install gutter screening, and hope I do not void the warranty. Sometimes you have to really look hard at the little things before you buy. <br /> <br /> <br /> . <br />"

"Exceptionally good service. In a large home remodel project Dave has ended up being the best contractor we have used so far. He came on time to give the estimate, provided the most detailed quote with details of contract, checked in a couple of days ahead of the install, showed up the day before the install to make sure there would be no surprises, and the work performed is of exceptional quality. One minor SNAFU with expectations for finish gloss was handled professionally and with a focus on the solution, not the problem. All in he and his team set the bar for professionalism and quality of work. Also, his rates, which not the cheapest, are definitely competitive, and the work is of incredible quality. Modest premium in price, definite premium in quality!"

"They are awesome; we actually are still using them for other projects.  They also have done several other projects in the past. Their charges have been very reasonable. Their first project was completing a house siding job that another contractor walked off from before finishing. They also painted and trimmed the house as well as putting siding on the garage. Now they are doing my back patio where they are replacing the ceiling panels, painting, caulking and sealing. He also is going to replace the major trim facing the south on our house. I highly recommend him."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Hermiston, OR

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
