"Alec and his team provided excellent, professional service and were very thorough in their work. Alec also identified a few additional issues and clearly explained how we could address them ourselves in a simple and cost-effective way. I would strongly recommend him for any plumbing needs."

"Dave (Dawson Mechanical) is awesome. He is the only plumbing company I use. His knowledge is on another level and he runs a great company. It is easy to get an appointment and he responds right away. You can feel confident, if you have an emergency or non-emergency situation you that can get touch with him. In the past he installed a new boiler, furnace and converted us over to gas from oil heat. The work he and the guys did on the furnace/boiler is so good that other contractors comment on it. It really is a work of art - very neat. Most recently, he helped fix a bad plumbing job a contractor did during a bathroom model. The bottom of the toilet was flooding and the shower made a gurgling noise every time the toilet was flushed - it was an annoying odd problem. John came over during the covid pandemic, analyzed the situation and came up with a solution. He wore gloves, a mask and maintained space between us. I am very impressed with his expertise and the level of detail and attention he works with. However, I shouldn’t have been surprised based on how great of a company Dawson Mechanical is. He hires quality technicians. Lesson learned - dont let the contractor do plumbing work. I will definitely use Dawson Mechanical again."

"Andrew was professional and really did a great job with the install. He was only a text away for any questions and followed thru with timelines for when we will receive the blinds and when he was going to be able to install them."

Customers say: Quality work

"Mike was the I my local plumber to answer my call for help. Although my job was not a large job, it was critical for me to get done during my remodel so that I could continue with my project. Mike kept his promise, arrived at the time he said he would and got the job done. Mike is awesome and actually told me to call him if I had any questions about tackling any of the other plumbing in my bath remodel or if I wanted him to come back to install anything else. Great guy with very reasonable prices. Highly recommend!!"

"Aaron and his crew were great. Bought a house with an undisclosed water issue. He understood my frustrations, did the planning for the repair and executed in a timely manner. Was always available to call, discuss, explain and was very helpful along the way. Hope I never have the issue in another house but would call if need be!"

"I would highly recommend Stay Cool to anyone considering installation of a Split System of cooling and heat pump capability. George the Owner, Evan and Tim provided a system that met our needs and then some. I currently rely on my oil fueled hot water and steam system for all of my heating needs until I had this system installed early November of 2019 (my home is of the 1923 vintage with limited space for conventional ducting of central air). To my astonishment I fired up my boiler only a handful of times this heating system, relying primarily on the heat pump ability of the newly installed system. My projected savings should be over $1000 this heating season. In addition I now have a fully air conditioned home with 6 separate units and 2 external compressor units. The entire system is extremely quiet and only required 3 days for full installation, I was originally concerned about the exterior look of feed lines to these units, but thanks to George, the lay out he envisioned minimized the impact, and consolidated lines. The work was clean and minimally invasive. The workmanship was equally impressive. As an added bonus there are energy incentives available through the state, and this job was one of the least expensive of the price quotes I had received. Extremely satisfied customer; Thanks again to George, Evan and Tim for providing this well received product and service. Best Regards, Stephen D. Greet Homeowner"

"I could not be more pleased. Tom, the proprietor was very easy to reach, very punctual and very professional. For both jobs, the quotes were very competitive, undercutting other quotes in both cases. When it came time to do the job, they showed up right on time, worked very efficiently and delivered very neat quality results. I feel like I paid handyman prices yet got quality expert work. Fox plumbing are honest, consummate pro's. I will not hesitate to use again."

"Very well. Dennis came out and gave us two options for the job, so we could choose which worked for us. Prices for each option were very competitive. His guys were terrific - pleasant and professional. They were there when they said they would be and stayed late to finish the job in one day. We have used Right One Plumbing many times in the past (old house, multiple plumbing issues) and they have never let us down. We'd recommend them every time."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Highland Park, NJ

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
