"QFS replaced all of the carpet upstairs to match the existing oak stairway. We needed the work done prior to moving into the house and were on vacation out of the country while it was being done. We discussed the installation options and pricing with Jesse and QFS found time to fit us into their schedule so they could do the work in an empty house. We gave them the keys and creative license, since we could not be there to make any decisions, and decided to go with natural red oak with no stain, just polyurethane sealant. We returned from vacation with the flooring done earlier than anticipated. The floor is beautiful. The work is perfect and the job site was left neat and clean. The natural wood color without stain has multiple different tones, which we like. It makes the entire upstairs feel much larger compared to the old carpet. It was worth every penny and we plan to have the carpeted stairway re-done when the QFS "stairway guy" gets back from vacation."

"Very comfortable in dealing with Tim.  This is a big job for us.  He repaired damaged wood floors and then added wood where there was carpet in the remaining downstairs.  Then he re-carpeted the rest of the house.  In all he replaced or repaired every square inch of flooring in our house. <br /> Overall great guy.  Workers were nice.  They showed up on time and the job was finished on time as promised.  We had Tim's cell and he was always available to talk. <br /> When selecting the carpet and choosing the type of hardwood and stain color Tim went with us step by step and treated it as his own house. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"I visited their showroom and World of Rugs. I had already used Shah Abbas and wanted to see if there was a difference in service in this area. I decided against World of Rugs as they seem to be mainly modern rugs. Shiraz has the style of rugs that I own. <br /> The gentleman I spoke to said that the manager and owner were out, but they did provide in home estimates, and would be happy to pick up my rugs. <br /> I left my name and number for a call back. <br /> Within a few days I received a call from a VERY rude male who said that they did not pick up for customers who had small carpets and they did not do in-home estimates and I could bring in my carpets myself if I wanted to. I pointed out that as I don't know anyone here and my husband is overseas I can't very well pick up my couch by myself to pull out the rug, so no, thanks. <br /> A few days later I got another call, from someone who was polite, who claimed not to know who had called me, who said that they would be happy to pick up my rugs. No price given. Asked about stains, etc. There weren't any, the rugs just smelled like dog, as I have two who lie on the rugs. <br /> I let the previous call go and arranged for pick up. <br /> Three hours past the arranged pick up time I called the store, eventually received a call back and within an hour the rugs were picked up. Again, not polite individuals. Not as rude as the first, but not nice. I was not comfortable with them in my home. <br /> Forward to the drop off, they called on a Saturday, then again on Monday morning. I am undergoing extensive home renovations, so I didn't return the call until noon-ish on Monday. I was scolded for not returning the call sooner because he was trying to and quot;do me a favorand quot; and deliver my rugs. <br /> Rugs were delivered the next day, again very unpleasant. The front of my house was being painted and they ran into the wet front door with the dolly. Then slammed the metal dolly down on my wood floor. When I scolded him for that, I was ORDERED to remove my dogs from the room, as though they had somehow caused a problem. Again, I was not comfortable with strange men in my home. I have dogs for a reason. <br /> The rugs no longer smell of dog, but for the extremely poor customer service, I would never use these people again, nor recommend them, particularly to a female. <br />"

"They came as scheduled to install the floors, however when completing the 2nd day of flooring they did not install the final threshold and said that was not part of the job and I would have to hire someone to do the work or have my husband do it. This was the first time this information had been told to me. Now I have an incomplete job in my opinion and they refused to complete it. The carpet was installed to perfection. Shortly there after the 1/4-round molding was coming lose all around the hardwood floor, so I had another carpenter repair those. I did hire another carpenter to install the threshold, but the stain will never match, always a reminder of their workmanship."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Highlands, NC

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
