"Keegan does great work! Let’s just start with that. From helping me pick out the best flooring for my home to showing up exactly when he said he was going to be there and having an open line of communication. I’ve dealt with multiple contractors in the past and all of them gave the same experience, most of the time they wouldn’t get back to me for multiple days or they would just show up out of the blue no phone call or text and start working. If you appreciate someone that will communicate well with you and also has great knowledge of products than Keegan is your guy I will definitely be using lakes area remodels for all my future contracting needs!!"

"This is the second job, John, Daryll, and company have done for us. I like the way they respect our home and take extra steps to keep the job as clean and neat as possible. They have skills that make them perfect for remodel jobs on older homes as well as newer homes. They provide the best "bang for the buck" if you wish to hire pros. And since I myself do not possess the necessary talents to do such fine work, I'm glad they're nearby."

"Mary Ann has been all we hoped for, she came out to measure our areas of remodel three times, to be sure of accurate dimensions!! After we decided on the items we would need, we met with Mary Ann at Cabinet Corner, she was helpful in assisting in picking out items that would coordinate with our needs in decor. That's where her expertise in design is a asset. We were able to pick out, bedroom carpet, hardwood flooring, laundry room and hall flooring, toliets, dishwasher, refrigerator ,counter tops, bathroom vanities, hardware, kitchen and bathroom sinks and faucets, fireplace refacing as well as wall repair and french doors. Cabinet Corner offers everything you would ever need to remodel and beautify your home. Dan, who works for Cabinet Corner, is a painter with over 30 years experience, as we speak he is painting for our remodel, he does a beautiful, meticulous job. Mary Ann contacts and provides the contractors, plumbers, electricions etc. Our remodel is in progress, ahead of schedule and we are very pleased with Cabinet Corner & Home Center, Mary Ann, Dan, Curt and the whole crew."

"<hr /> Our home in Spooner Wisconsin had very high radon readings so I called DBS Solutions. Ron came out to meet with us. We also had some water issues in the basement that Ron was able to address, so we decided to have both problems fixed at the same time. We had some unusual requests in the placement of the pipes and fan for the radon. Ron was able to think outside of the box to make this happen. The job had some challenges. (weather, placement of components, crazy amount of rocks around the foundation) Ron and his crew were always cheerful and competent, very hard working. After completion, we were unhappy with how loud the radon fan was. Ron and Brandon headed back out and retooled the fan to make it much quieter. We are very happy with the work. No water in the basement, radon went from 28 to 1, outside and inside foundation looks great. I'd like to give a special thank you to Brandon. He worked the job from start to finish and did a great job."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Hill City, MN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
