"We had asbestos removed from ceilings before a mold problem was handled and from around piping. All phases of the project went great and was completed ahead of schedule. My thanks to them all."

Small jobs welcome

"Superior Abatement answered my call for a kitchen demolition where asbestos was involved. These guys answered quickly and showed up promptly for the assessment. (Not what happened with three other companies) They made a bid on the work that made my day! Then their work was superior. What a nice group of gentlemen. Very polite, very efficient. Sealed the work completely so that I could not smell the mold treatment and sealer even in the next room. I hope to hire them again when the next demolition job is ready to roll."

"It went great. I called the company to schedule a time for them to make an estimate. Jeff came out and looked at the flooring, asked several questions, and provided me with proof of the company's licensing to remove asbestos materials. He gave me a detailed overview of how the process would go. The thing I appreciated the most was that he told me that this was something my husband and I could do ourselves if we wanted (we're redoing our kitchen almost entirely by ourselves), and told me step-by-step how he would do it. I really respected that and appreciated his forthrightness. My husband and I talked it over and decided to go with their company anyways, as we have plenty of things to work on and would prefer the peace of mind knowing someone with experience was handling it. They scheduled a time to complete the job a lot sooner than I had even hoped, and showed up promptly at the time we'd agreed on. Jeff was there again to oversee the job and introduced me to the workers. He kept me updated through the day with a few texts on how things were going and was able to finish the job entirely by mid-afternoon. The air result tests came back clean, and we're thrilled to feel safe in the kitchen again. I'd definitely recommend this company to anyone."

"Project was bid by several companies. Chose EMR based on their professionalism in the bidding process and willingness to file for the required permits, handle the material correctly, do follow up testing and inspections for the asbestos remediation, and for being fully insured (not just liability). There was some back and forth to settle out details, but it was handled well by the staff, who addressed any questions promptly. Their team arrived on time, worked cohesively and professionally, took care of the jobsite, were responsive to concerns, and finished the project well within the given timeline. EMR used the correct equipment (such as air scrubbers), handled the dumpster and state disposal paperwork, and took precautions to try not damage things that were going to be salvaged or saved. Definitely a company that should be considered if you are looking for a professional, competent team for your demolition or abatement needs."

"I really don't know where to begin. These guys are awesome and they are professionals. I have found it extremely difficult to find someone that is a professional, shows up ON TIME, and comes in ON BUDGET. These are the people you are looking for. I worked directly with Scott on several projects ranging from plumbing, roofing, electrical, HVAC to framing, you name it. The job got done right, on time and on budget. Any time I needed something or had a question I could call them or email them and get a response back almost immediately. I will only be doing business with these guys from now on for everything."

FAQs for asbestos abatement projects in Hillsborough, NC

Asbestos is a group of six naturally occurring mineral fibers once commonly used in building materials because of their resistance to heat, electricity, and corrosion. However, in 1975, research confirmed that these fibers cause mesothelioma and other cancers, leading to strict usage laws. If your home contains asbestos, removing it can prevent long-term health effects. You'll often find asbestos in the flooring, ceilings, pipes, and roofing of homes built before the 1990s. Common asbestos-containing materials include vermiculite insulation, vinyl flooring, millboard, and corrugated roofing. If you suspect you have asbestos or any of these materials in your home, it's important to hire a reputable abatement company to perform testing.

Currently, there is no federal licensing mandate for asbestos removal contractors. However, certain cities and states require certification and specialized training. For example, in some areas, contractors handling asbestos must receive an Asbestos Handler Certification. Be sure to check your local laws to ensure any contractor you hire meets the necessary requirements.

Homes constructed before the 1990s can conceal asbestos within building materials, and testing provides a definitive answer. You should have your home tested by a certified asbestos inspection service. This professional evaluation identifies hazardous materials and determines whether removal or encapsulation is necessary. Testing safeguards your family’s health and supports smart budgeting for remediation.

Federal law does not require you to disclose the presence of asbestos when selling your home. However, certain states and local jurisdictions impose disclosure regulations that you must follow. Testing and professional remediation confirm that hazardous materials are properly managed. This proactive approach not only meets legal requirements but also protects your property’s value and buyer health.

Asbestos removal affects a home’s resale value because hazardous materials can deter potential buyers. Having toxic substances present lowers buyer confidence and may reduce the property’s value by 1% to 15% if not addressed. Professional remediation ensures safety standards are met and preserves marketability, protecting your long-term investment.

Grants exist at both federal and state levels to support asbestos testing and removal projects. Local housing programs may also offer financial assistance when asbestos is discovered during home repairs. Meeting certification and testing standards is required to secure these funds, which help to manage overall project costs while ensuring safe remediation.
