"Dave Pearson, Matt, & Jacy were prompt, friendly, respectful to us and our home, professional, and worked hard all day. They hauled out trash & muck from the crawlspace, leveled it, did mold abatement, installed two new sump pumps, dug new drainage inside and outside, insulated the foundation walls, installed a permanent dehumidifier, and encapsulated the entire crawl space. They cleaned up the mess at the end of each work day without prompt. We enjoyed having this work crew in our home and would request the same crew if further services are needed."

"Dennis Hearth and Home installed a beautiful gas fireplace for us and the masonry work was excellent. We have also used them for all our household maintenance, everything from shingling our roof and fixing leaks to constructing steps and handrails. I would recommend them to everyone. They are courteous and polite, do an excellent job and clean the area before they leave. A Christian family owned business. I give 5 stars"

"After years of bad leaks in our cement block basement wall, and lots of attempts to stop water intrusion by paving and regrading outside of the house, I contracted with B-Dry to  finally fix the problem. We had bids from four different companies, each with a different system for collecting and removing water that would flow through the wall during wet weather. I felt that the B-Dry system was the most robust, and also the most traditional. The system they used was also cited by a university study I read online as the best way to solve this water problem. The process for getting the price quote from B-Dry was clear and informative. Everything they offered was clearly explained, as were all of my options. <br /> <br /> The estimate called for repairing 22 linear feet of wall along two sides of my basement, and installing a new clean out for the foundation drain system with a connection for the new drain tile they would install. In addition, I opted for covering one entire wall (7 feet high) and the other wall to a height of 4 feet with their plastic panel system. The job took a full day. I prepared by clearing the area and moving my workbench, and clearing a path to the basement stairs. The workers arrived as scheduled with all of their supplies and tools. <br /> <br /> They moved my washer and dryer and covered some basement items, stairs, and back hallway floor. They used a jackhammer to break out the basement floor from the wall out about 18 inches, then hand-dug the dirt down to the bottom of the foundation. They installed crushed rock, installed sections of PVC drain tile, and covered the tile system with more crushed rock. They installed the new drain cleanout, replacing the 70 year old cast iron unit, and also installed two inspection ports in the system, which are accessible in corners of the floor. They then poured new cement to finish the floor. It has a smooth finish and matches the level of the old floor exactly. They removed all debris and cleaned after the work was done. As you can imagine, the work is heavy and dirty. I recleaned the area twice, and mopped the floor several times after the work was done. The old floor was unfinished cement, and really held the dirt, but that is more about my old cement floor than it is about the work they did.  <br /> <br /> As the cement dried it did settle in one spot by the new clean out, which left a shallow dimple in the surface. I have not called about this-- it is in our fruit cellar and isn't an issue as far as I can tell.  <br /> The system seems to work exactly as I had hoped. We had record snowfall this year, and the basement was totally dry during the spring snow melt. We've had two strong rainstorms this spring, and there has not been a drop of water in the basement. The plastic paneling looks a thousand times better than the water-damaged stucco that we had to look at before the work was done. The dampness is greatly reduced in the basement, and it smells much better than it did before.  <br /> I waited until after the snow melted and we had some good rainstorms before writing this review. I think I will be satisfied with this repair over the long haul."

"I got three estimates. They were the middle estimate but they did not try to upsell me as the others did even though they did explain all of my options and answer my questions. They arrived on time, performed the work per their estimate. They warned me about the dust even though they clearly tried to contain it as much as possible. Cleaned up after themselves. The drain system is working. The workers answered all of my questions. I would hire them again if needed. They put the drain in one side of my basement and under a porch."

"My service tech, Jordan Foy, called promptly in the morning and arrived right on schedule. He was friendly, knowledgeable and did a great job installing my sump pump and the underground line. He made sure I approved of what he was going to do each step of the way. He was also very nice to my golden retriever puppy who wanted to be his assistant. I will be using Ayers Basement Systems again for additional work on my basement next spring."

"<p>I had an outdoor faucet that had been dripping since late summer. I turned the shut off valve as much as it would go, but it still dripped. It was the outdoor faucet that I used the most so I needed it replaced so I could turn the water back on. Also, my floor drain in the basemant would overflow when I did laundry. I called Roto-Rooters to make an appointment and was told that their over time rate was after 4 pm. I had to wait until I had a day off since I didn't want to pay over the $149/hr rate they charge. </p> <p><br /></p> <p>Dominic was the technician that came to my house. I explained to him what I needed done. He explained a couple options for me for my faucet. I ened up just having the actual faucet changed since I had never had problems before with my pipes freezing. I had used Roto-rooter before to cleaned out the floor drain in my basement. Last time they came out and cleaned it out and that was it. Dominic asked me when the drain was overflowing (which was just when I did laundry.) He cleaned the drain out and then watched the laundry sink fill up with water. He noticed that the link trap I was using wasn't doing any good. The water would fill up and cover the link trap that the washer hose was going into. The link would then go into the water and down the drain which is why my drain was overflowing again. He suggested using a wire sock style lint trap and explained to me what they looked like, where to get them, etc.</p> <p>When I had called to make the appointment the lady asked what form of payment I would be using. I told her my visa debit card. When I went to pay after the job was done, Dominic asked if I knew there was a 3% handling charge on all debit and credit payments. I ended up paying with a check so I didn't have to pay the charge. I didn't understand why I wasn't told over the phone about the charge especially after I was asked what payment I would use. I told the technician that and he said he would make sure to look into it. That was really my only issue. I wish the overtime rate started later in the day for people who work during the day</p> <br />"

"The leveling went okay. Back in September of 2018 I requested that the crack along the wall be caulked. They didn't come out for several weeks and I cancelled. I hired another company to do the caulking. Now seven months later I receive an invoice for work they just did. Come to find out they use subcontractors to do the caulking and they just gave them the work order, seven months later and the subcontractor ripped out what was done back in October and re-caulked."

"Everything was wonderful! First of all, the representative they sent to look at my problem, Greg, was tremendous! He explained everything very clearly and gave me 3 options. He answered all my questions. The two men who came to do the work were efficient, did a great job, and left me with a dry basement! I would recommend them to everyone!"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Hillsdale, MI

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
