"Radon is not something I knew much about, but after purchasing an AirThings air sensor and tracking the radon levels in my basement, I felt like this was causing some of my wife's breathing issues. I found two different companies on HomeAdvisor.com. Radon Systems LLC was a lot cheaper than the second company I met with. I spoke with Lori and she gave me a lot of great information about radon. She sent me an estimate very quickly and after making a decision to hire them, got me an appointment within a week. Nick came to do the work. He was very professional, wore a mask the whole time and did a very neat job. He cleaned up both inside and outside before he was done. I would highly recommend this company to my family, friends, and others looking for a radon mitigation system. Thanks Radon Systems LLC."

"Gary, the install tech, was great. He arrived on time, was professional, and went above and beyond to ensure everything was done right and I was satisfied. He installed a new radon pipe, and ensured the clamps were not directly against the house and the top of the pipe was properly away from the gutter. After the pipe was installed I noticed a rattling noise coming from the motor...Gary checked it and cleaned out debris multiple times until the noise was gone. You could tell Gary takes pride in his work and wanted to do the job right the first time (I feel like you don't see this very often). A job well done."

"Overall Chris did a very good job in my opinion. We went through the house methodically and he explained to us all the issues he has discovered. After we were done he answered all the questions we came up with, leaving us with the feeling we know and understand the house and the issues that he discovered. Chris checked all appliances although he did not check every electric outlet or light which was okay with us. We believe he uncovered all major issues and might have missed some minor ones which we accept. The inspection report was very thorough and instructional. It added to our understanding of the possible problems and how to deal with them. I called Chris several times after the day of inspection with questions arising from reading the report and the results of radon test and he was very responsive. He also suggested that if I eventually buy the house I can call him with any questions I might have, All in all it was a very positive experience with a home inspector and if I had to hire again I'd hire Chris with no hesitation."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"We opted to do the full home inspection along with a radon test. Ken was very personable and give my fiance' a lot of information in regard to the home we are purchasing as first time home buyers. We received a 60+ pg. report the following day detailing the results of the inspection (with photos and suggestions), which is very useful. The only thing that was surprising is that the inspection was only about 1.5 hours, I was expecting longer for a 1500 sq ft. home, makes me wonder if he could have been a bit more in depth with some elements."

Nauset Environmental is a professional environmental investigation/testing company providing services for the indoor environment - residential and commercial. Our investigation services are offered without conflict of interest since we are not looking for additional cleanup business after we provide a "free" evaluation. We are staffed by independently certified professionals evaluated by a separate organization that looks at our experience, training and continuing education, etc. before issuing a certification. \n\nFollowing our initial inspection, at a fixed price, our work with verbal reporting is done 85-90% of the time. Should that initial inspection find conditions that call for additional investigation, sampling, laboratory analysis, reporting, etc. we will describe what we have found and obtain prior approval before expanding the services provided. NOTE that travel expenses, with prior customer approval, are added to initial inspection jobs beyond 50 miles from our East Orleans office. \n\nAdditional DBAs - Nauset Environmental Services, NES.

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Hyannis-port, MA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
