"I first hired Daniel and his team to scrape my front yard to get it ready for spring planting, and to plant four new trees. They did such a good job, I was thrilled to hire them right away to build a new retaining wall in my 100-year old house basement. They worked within the timeframe I needed them to, as I also was working with another company to replace my furnace. The wall came out better than I could have imagined! When I had some leakage problems with my sprinkler system, they came and worked on that, as well as replaced an old valve. They went above and beyond on my multiple projects. Daniel and his team are pros! I highly recommend them and look forward to using their services again! Thank you D&D!"

"We worked with Dylan on a number of house projects, beginning with a full bathroom remodel. We also had him hang new doors throughout the house and build/install a customer island in a tight kitchen. He has an eye for finish details that tend to be ignored, and we were extremely pleased with the finished products on the entire project."

"Quality, Quality, Quality!!!  Hard to believe since I am the picky women that insists that everything is done perfect, I found that his standards were higher than mine.  I came to trust his judgement.  If he saw work that was not being done up to his personal standard, he had the worker redo the work.  He always returned calls and was in constant contact with the crew when he could not be on the job site.  I NEVER felt like I was not his most important job.  Saftey, pride in workmenship and clean-up were the standard not the exception.
He was HONEST!!!  I had six contractors from angies list come and give me quotes for the job.  Several could not repair the decks, but woud GLADLY sell me a new decks for the price of my daughters college education.  Others quoted me so low that it was clear that when they got into the job and "discovered more rot" ,  that the price would greatly increase with unforeseen costs. Others would only do part of the repairs and I would have to hire a seperate contractor for the rest of the job. He was honest with how much work my deck really needed!!  No homeowner wants the bad news.  It was clear that our safety was important to him, rather I gave him my bussiness or not. He was going to make sure I was awear of the extent of the rot. He spent severall hours with me so I could clearly understand the issues and show them to my husband when he got home.  For example, I had a stairway that was barely standing.  We hardly ever used it so   I had no idea that it was so shakey.  Not one other contractor pointed out the issue.
Understanding of homeowner financial limitations.  He took the time to talk about the problems and gave me several possible solutions.  He took the time to give me three quotes.  Giving me options, I never felt pressured or just being cheep.  It was never all or nothing with him.  Many of the other contractors were not very flexable.  The one thing he would not be flexable on was quality - the job would be done to the highest standards or not done at all. His flexability allowed me to have a trex floor on my back deck yet use the wood railing. Without this option, I could not afforded trex on the back deck.  Not one other contractor even offered me this option.

"Joe and his team: Roman, Logan, Austin, Josh and Boston are pretty amazing! We needed a very large, very old deck and bridge in very poor condition removed. While old deck was being taken out, new materials were delivered and the following day old deck material was hauled away. Joe's "A" team worked diligently, they are very professional and precise. Now we have a beautiful deck, guard rails and two sets of stairs. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you! Janelle & Dave S."

"We loved working with Ernest. He answered every question I had in a very timely manner (within minutes of my text). We have 100% exterior siding (no rock or brick. Our house was a big job and Ernestâ s crew had our James Hardy siding completely finished within 2 weeks and they were able to start immediately. The crew worked non-stop except to break for lunch. I have referred a friend to GS exteriors and I will continue to refer people. I am 100% satisfied."

"JR and his crew did a great job building us a new deck. JR listened to what we wanted and made sure to understand our needs and wants before proceeding with the work. He and his crew were very kind and professional. We referred him to friends after sending them pictures of our new deck, and they hired him to build them a deck. I would not only recommend Rodriguez Remodeling & Repair, but would hire them again!"

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Idledale, CO

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
