"PLEASE BE AWARE!! DO NOT USE ROTO ROOTER!! THEY ARE SCAMMING HOMEOWNERS!! My son and his fiancé just purchased their first home on Thursday, they noticed the utility sink in the basement was backing up which seemed to look like brown paper towels or cardboard when they would flush the toilets on Saturday, we called Roto Rooter to come out because we assumed the lines were clogged from the material. Roto Rooter advised it would cost $689.00 to snake the line, if they could not get the line unclogged it would be a charge of $200.00. This includes a camera to look at the pipe to make sure nothing else was damaged. The gentleman gave me a discount and charged $500.00 to snake the line, He was able to unclog the pipe. HERE IS WHERE THE SCAM BEGINS!! The Camera Man “Doug” arrives to use the camera. Immediately on arrival he says to my son, OH you just bought this house. He forces the camera down the pipe from the inside of the basement. He tells my son he has major problems, there are rocks coming inside your house through the pipes. I have a recording of the camera and we did not see any rocks whatsoever. He told us the pipes needed to be excavated and replaced. He told my son there was no clean out outside his home so that would need to be installed as well. He quoted my son $8,000.00 to dig up the yard, replace the pipe and install a clean out!!! Dough told my son he could not stay at his home; he could not run any water at all, or it would cause major issues. My son and his fiancé had not even slept one night in the house yet, they had just purchased their home. I told my son to take the estimate and tell them have a nice day!! We received a second opinion and ROTO ROOTER was totally lying!! There was a clean out right on the outside wall of the home, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the pipe besides it was slightly off which most likely has been that way for 60 years!! The second opinion we received placed a camera down the pipe, the camera went in the pipe very easily. “Doug” had to force the camera down the pipe and manipulated the camera to remove the ball so it would show there was damage when there was no damage. A day my son and his fiancé should have been happy about purchasing their first home turned into the worse day thinking they just bought a house they could not even use at all because this company wanted to try to get money out of a young couple that just purchased a new home. PLEASE DO NOT GET SCAMMED BY THIS COMPANY. There have been several lawsuits against this company for the same exact thing over the years in different states as well."

With over 40 years of experience in septic tank installation and service, Eagle and Son Septic Service is a family business, consisting of the owner Nathan Eagle, his son, and a good friend, who's just like one of the family. Nathan got started in the business at 15 years old when he was offered a job in the septic industry. 10 years later, in 1987, he started his own business. More than 40 years later, he is an expert in the field and focuses his experience on providing a personal and personable relationship with each customer.
"Nathan Eagle was wonderful to work with. I had quotes from other companies including one that gave me a multi-page contract with all kinds of exceptions so one really didn't know the final price, and then I received a quote from Eagle. Gave me understandable quotes that included all I needed. Due to our new septic not being at least 100' from our well, he changed his quote to install a BAT septic system per Baltimore County. His second quote was more than I wanted to spend, but the county had a grant program with funding available that paid for most of the cost of the new tank and its installation. He was usually available when I called or texted. A hard-working person who's actually hands-on."

A. J. Michaels AC, Heating and Home Performance has been serving greater Baltimore and Annapolis since 1978. Long recognized for contributions to energy efficiency measures in HVAC, and winner of multiple awards from Carrier, the Department of Energy and BG&E, AJ Michaels is expert in all heating and cooling applications. We’re also specialists in making your home healthier by improving your ductwork, reducing dust, purifying your air and killing viruses. And, we offer more rebates and discounts than competitors. See us for increased home comfort and happiness!
"We hired AJ Michaels to do our yearly service to our steam boiler, they came out on a Wednesday and performed the annual maintenance. Friday, no heat! They sent another tech out on Sunday to tell us that the return lines were blocked, thus hindering the performance of our unit. The following Saturday, thus far,a week with no heat in January, to give us an estimate on replacing the blocked return pipe with new copper pipe. We get an estimate for the job, $8,400 dollars, WOW first RED FLAG! The pipe they are replacing is roughly 50 feet of exposed pipe in our basement, so the estimate seemed ridiculously high, so we asked for a description of the work being done (hours of labor, price of materials) and we were told that AJ Michaels DOES NOT provide a itemized report of services provided, BAM! SECOND RED FLAG!! Any professional service provider should provide a detailed itemization of what services you are paying for, and as a consumer, you should ask for that so you know what you are paying for. I emailed the estimator and questioned the excessive price tag (after doing a simple google search to find out that we can get a brand new unit installed for roughly 10k) his response that it was going to take 3 days to complete the job. I am by no means a professional in the HVAC industry, but taking 3 days to remove and reinstall 50 ft of exposed pipe seemed outrageous, so I asked if they could do any better with the price. He came back with 2 days of labor, instead of three, and drop the hourly wage from $200 an hour to $190 an hr, taking us down from $8,400 to $5,200, BAM!!! THIRD RED FLAG!!! Why did he not give us the $3,200 break the first time? I believe it was because he knew we did not have heat, and we had to have the work done! AJ Michaels was taking advantage of our situation in a time of need. We have since received a detailed written estimate from another company (40ft of 1 1/4 inch pipe, 6 elbows, 2 tees, 2 unions and 4 to 5 hrs of labor) ready for this...$2,500. You decide if you want to use AL Michaels in the future, but if you do, I strongly recommend that you get a detailed estimate if materials and projected labor costs and don't allow them to price gouge you like they tried to do to me. I, personally would look into another company that is about taking care of their customers and not padding their pocket!"

"I contracted Level Home Services through Costco for a full A/C and furnace replacement and have been satisfied with their service at every point so far. The initial inspection to get a quote was extremely thorough and informative, and they gave me several options at different price points, all of which beat the other vendors I was looking at. When it was time to actually complete the work, the technicians were prompt, professional, helpful, and courteous. After 2 full days of work, they walked me through everything they did in detail and answered all my questions. By the time they left, the only sign anyone had been here was the shiny new equipment in my basement and yard -- no mess/dirt anywhere (except my own). It was a big job so it was pricey, but definitely money well spent and I would not hesitate to hire them again."

Depending on maintenance and environmental conditions, septic distribution boxes last between 15 and 40 years. With excellent care and regular system maintenance, these components can function properly for over 30 years. Factors affecting longevity include soil conditions, proper installation, regular septic tank pumping, and avoiding excessive water usage that might overwhelm the system.
Warning signs of distribution box problems include unusually lush or soggy grass patches over your drain field, slow-draining fixtures throughout your home, and unpleasant odors in your yard. You might also experience plumbing backups, gurgling sounds in pipes, or multiple drain clogs occurring simultaneously. These symptoms indicate that wastewater isn't being evenly distributed across your leach field lines.
Most standard homeowners' insurance policies don't cover septic distribution box replacement when damage results from normal wear, age-related deterioration, or poor maintenance. Coverage might apply if damage occurs from sudden, covered events like falling trees or vehicle impacts. Some insurers offer optional septic system endorsements for additional protection. Review your specific policy details to understand your coverage options.
Septic professionals recommend having your distribution box and overall septic system inspected every two to five years. Some homeowners opt for more frequent checks, especially if they've experienced previous issues or have an older system. Regular inspections help identify minor problems before they develop into major failures requiring complete replacement. These preventative evaluations cost between $100 and $200.
