"PDW SEPTIC IS A VERY DIVERSE COMPANY. Not only do they pump septic tanks but can evaluate your current system, do major modifications, complete installation of new septic systems along with the leaching system. Tony, the foreman has over 35 years experience in the septic field and is very experienced in all phases of taking care of all your septic needs, as he did mine. Tony explained to me how your septic system is the very heart of your home as it can’t function without it. Thanks PDW, you gave my 50 year old septic system a new lease on life, and that I am grateful for"

"I recently had a leaking water heater removed and replaced by Leonard from Cal's Plumbing Company who did an outstanding job. Top quality parts and materials along with Leonard's meticulous craftsmanship were used in the installation of the new 40-gallon natural gas water heater. The work area was left neat and clean which we appreciated. I highly recommend Cal's Plumbing Company for anyone who has a plumbing project or an urgent need for a plumber as their personnel are highly skilled, courteous, and punctual."

"Trevor called me minutes after requesting a referral, and he said he install my water heater the next day. It was a weekend, and I appreciated his response. Trevor provided the price upfront and did not try to upsell me. He installed the water heater promptly and cleaned up after himself. I would recommend Dr. Drain!"

"It went well. The plumber solved our drain problem and answered our questions, including noting our hot water heater was still functioning adequately and did not need replacement at this time."

"The plumber was able to unclog the drain by removing the safety catch (not sure this is the proper name for it) on the other side of the wall.  A lot of sludge had built up during the years and he was able to clear it effectively.
A couple of winters ago, Tucson experienced a freeze, pipes froze, causing major damage and headaches for home owners, I was one of them.  I called Wood's Plumbing and was adviced every available plumber was driving to and through town mending/repairing broken pipes, it would be a while until someone could come to my home.  Eventually they did and repaired the pipe.  While the truck was parked in front of the house, about 4 or 5 neighbors came out and asked the plumbers to please check their connections.  The fellows took the time to do so, leaving my neighbors feeling a little bit more at ease.

FAQs for septic system installation and replacement projects in Tucson, AZ

The smallest standard septic system uses a 500-gallon tank, which costs between $875 and $1,150 installed. This size works well for single-occupant dwellings with minimal wastewater production. However, many local regulations specify minimum tank sizes, so check with your building department before committing to this compact option. Some jurisdictions require at least 750 gallons regardless of home size to ensure adequate waste processing capacity.

The installation timeline varies based on site conditions, permit processing, and contractor schedules. The process includes obtaining permits, conducting soil tests, excavation, tank placement, leach field construction, and final connections. Weather conditions, soil challenges, and inspection scheduling can all affect the overall timeline. It's wise to begin planning well in advance of when you need the system operational.

The most economical approach is to install a conventional anaerobic system with a plastic tank. To minimize costs while maintaining legality, obtain multiple quotes from licensed installers, consider scheduling during their slower seasons, and handle basic site preparation yourself. Never skip permits or required testing to save money—illegal installations can result in significant fines and mandatory removal, ultimately costing far more than doing it right initially.

Regular pumping helps prevent system failures and extends operational life. Most small systems require pumping every three to five years, though frequency depends on household size and usage patterns. Pumping services cost between $290 and $530, making this maintenance expense relatively minor compared to potential repair costs ranging from $500 to $2,600 for neglected systems. Establishing a regular maintenance schedule based on your installer's recommendations helps avoid costly emergency services.
