"I have had CJ Plumbing do work before and they were excellent. This time they replaced my 3 sump pumps because they were too weak to eject the water from recent heavy rains. They acted professionally, did high quality work, explained every step they were going to take during the install, explained the pricing and communicated frequently. In summary, these guys are top-notch! I will definitely use them again!!"

"I purchased my house about 6 months ago.  It has had non-stop plumbing problems, including needing a new hot water heater the day I bought it.  I've had 5 or 6 plumbers out for different issues and had to deal with people who couldn't find the problem, did sub-par work, or wouldn't return calls.
When I smelled a gas leak near my hot water heater, M & E came right out and installed a new valve.  A few days later, I was still noticing a gas smell.  They came right back out and replaced another part free of charge that had been overlooked.  This is the kind of service I value.  Dealing with the various issues in my place has shown me plumbing is not an easy task, and I really appreciate a professional that is willing to make sure the job is done correctly.  Looking forward to having them out for additional work in the future!

"Derek arrived promptly at 8am as scheduled. He installed the new faucet in less than 1 hour and only charged $162. $180 is the normal installation cost, but we received a 10% discount as an Angie's List member. He also gave us a $5 Starbucks gift card for being a first time customer. Wiz Plumbing's normal cost for a faucet installation is much less than the $225-300 other companies charge. I will definitely use them again in the future and I have their magnetic business card hanging on my refrigerator for quick reference. You should definitely give them a call for your plumbing needs."

"Within an hour of contacting him, Patrick came to my condo unit for FREE to evaluate the sump pump system.  Another plumber had previously given a rather incomprehensible quote based on his own past work on the building. Patrick was able to explain the other contractor's quote and clearly explain what type of system was in each unit (a point that had not previously been made completely clear).
Within 15 minutes of evaluating the actual sump pump and the other contractor's quote, Patrick was able to provide an apples to apples quote, a quote for an upgraded maintenance free system (an upgrade the condo board is considering), and a quote for a long term money saving option that would create a continuity of sump pumps across the building and a easy of care and continued maintenance at a more reasonable price.
If it was completely up to me, I wouldn't bother hassling with trying to get two other quotes to appease the condo board policy. I would hire McDonagh & Sons.

"Chicago Water Pros was fantastic. Mark was super responsive and accommodating to my needs. He gave us all of the information that we needed to make an informed decision and was upfront and honest. He installed exactly what we were looking for in the kitchen for our drinking water at a great price. The system has been ideal for us. I would recommend Mark and Chicago Water Pros to anyone."

"Fast, efficient, and courteous. The guys came on a RFQ call, and ended up doing the work the same morning. They had the replacement pump on the truck, and installed it within 2 hours, including testing. Cleaned up after themselves. Left all the paperwork with a guarantee on the pump and their work. Very happy."

"I've used Handyman Matters multiple times and continue to be impressed with both the ease of scheduling and the quality of work. Jose arrived on time, walked through the jobs I needed done, and confirmed costs and estimates before beginning. He quickly replaced an expired hard-wired smoke detector and two wall-mounted bathroom light fixtures, taking special care to ensure the fixtures were level. I'd also hoped to have two bathroom exhaust fans replaced. After opening up one of the bathroom ceilings, we discovered that the connections were hard-wired and would therefore require significant effort to extend and relocate, in addition to affecting existing crown molding. After showing me the situation in the ceiling and explaining what would be required to do what I'd asked, Jose walked through other options to reduce fan noise. We then went to Home Depot to purchase what was needed. Although the fall-back solution couldn't reduce the sound as much as I'd originally hoped, Jose helped me make the best decision possible without overinvesting in work that was a 'nice to have' as opposed to a 'have to have' which I greatly appreciate. We swapped out the motor assembly for a quieter one, and given the modular nature of the motor, when future upgrades are released, they can be easily retrofitted into these existing fans. I'd definitely use Jose again, should the need arise."

"I felt it cost a lot to have my pipes cleaned for that price, but it was an emergency, so I had not choice but to pay the price -- tech was very professional and nice, very informative -- there was a mix-up with my credit card, but they were prompt to fix the problem right away and not weeks later"

FAQs for septic system installation and replacement projects in Chicago, IL

Most septic system replacements require several days to complete, not including permitting and preparation time. The process begins with site assessment and testing, followed by excavation, component installation, and final inspection. Weather conditions, property accessibility, and inspection schedules can all affect your project timeline. Your contractor can provide a more specific estimate based on your property's unique characteristics.

Standard homeowners' insurance policies don't cover septic system replacement due to age or normal deterioration. Coverage may apply if damage results from specific covered events, but routine maintenance and eventual replacement are generally considered homeowner responsibilities. Review your policy details or speak with your insurance agent to understand your specific coverage limitations.

Look for multiple indicators such as slow-draining fixtures, unusual gurgling sounds in plumbing, sewage odors inside or outside your home, or wet spots in your yard. Unusually lush grass over the drain field area, frequent backups, or recurring repair needs might signal system failure. Addressing these warning signs promptly can prevent property damage and health hazards.

DIY septic installation is not recommended and may violate local regulations. Professional installation ensures compliance with health codes, proper design for your specific site conditions, and appropriate safety measures. The specialized equipment, technical knowledge, and permitting requirements make this a job best left to licensed professionals who can guarantee the system's safety and effectiveness.

With proper maintenance, including regular pumping, a drain field lasts 20 years. Various factors influence system longevity, including household size, water usage patterns, and soil conditions. Regular professional inspections can help determine when replacement becomes necessary. If your system requires increasingly frequent repairs, replacement might be more economical than continuing to address individual problems.
