"Turns out the leak was the result of a years-old faulty faucet part. The tech had a replacement in his truck that he was able to get to work -- and that was three years ago and it still works fine. We really appreciate what he did because our water bill actually went down.
I'm not sure about the actual service date but it soon after we bought the coupon.

"This was a GREAT experience! They came out same day, troubleshot every option, and when I thought all hope was lost they found the issue. Not only did they do a great job, they were hilarious and all around fun to be around. I will hire these guys for anything in the future, and have already passed their name and number to two other folks who just bought homes. One of a kind service!"

"T&T Designs and Construction did a fantastic job with our project. We were forced to eliminate our current septic system and convert to the city sewer which was a pretty big project. The whole thing was around 600 feet long and also had to do a new sewer tap. It was very deep (around 20 feet) to the city sewer. Nick & his Team handled it quickly and professionally. We really appreciated how careful they were with our property. They managed to install the new line and avoid damaging our newer asphalt driveway by doing a long curve around the parameter to avoid everything. Connecting to the deep sewer line was no problem for them. The crew was great to work with. They were always considerate and making sure things were safe and tidy. They even fixed all the grass they dug up. What really surprised us was they used asphalt millings to improve our dirt driveway without charging us anything. We're very happy with their work and would definitely recommend T&T Designs."

"Tim Haigh was great to work with at our inspection. Tim was very thorough and patient, answering all the questions I was bombarding him with. Tim never made us feel like he was rushing the inspection. For a city boy moving to the country, I know nothing about wells and septic systems. Although I was doing my own research, Tim was very helpful explaining how both systems work and recommending improvements for both systems. Tim examined every square inch of the home. He crawled into the attic, both the house and pole barn. He climbed to the peak of the roof to check the vent caps. He thoroughly stressed both well and septic systems. Tim made the inspection feel like a guided tour of our new home-to-be. At the end of the inspection, Tim reviewed all the photos he took during the inspection, pointing out the few minor issue that we would address once moved in. The inspection report we got the next day was very complete. It included all the photos Tim already reviewed with us. Everything in the report was very detailed, making us very confident about the purchase we were about to make. When the well water tested positive for bacteria, Matt Haigh calmed my nerves. Matt took the time to explain the test results to me, that the issue was treatable and not a deal breaker on the home purchase. Matt explained all the steps that would be taken to correct the issue, which the seller paid for. Weatherstone was great to work with and I would highly recommend them to my friends and family."

"They did a pretty good job. They fixed her grass as well after they were done. They cleaned up and didn’t leave a mess. They had some good employees who were professional. They came out the same day that my mom called them. They were out the next day to do the job."

FAQs for septic system installation and replacement projects in Detroit, MI

The smallest standard septic system uses a 500-gallon tank, which costs between $875 and $1,150 installed. This size works well for single-occupant dwellings with minimal wastewater production. However, many local regulations specify minimum tank sizes, so check with your building department before committing to this compact option. Some jurisdictions require at least 750 gallons regardless of home size to ensure adequate waste processing capacity.

The installation timeline varies based on site conditions, permit processing, and contractor schedules. The process includes obtaining permits, conducting soil tests, excavation, tank placement, leach field construction, and final connections. Weather conditions, soil challenges, and inspection scheduling can all affect the overall timeline. It's wise to begin planning well in advance of when you need the system operational.

The most economical approach is to install a conventional anaerobic system with a plastic tank. To minimize costs while maintaining legality, obtain multiple quotes from licensed installers, consider scheduling during their slower seasons, and handle basic site preparation yourself. Never skip permits or required testing to save money—illegal installations can result in significant fines and mandatory removal, ultimately costing far more than doing it right initially.

Regular pumping helps prevent system failures and extends operational life. Most small systems require pumping every three to five years, though frequency depends on household size and usage patterns. Pumping services cost between $290 and $530, making this maintenance expense relatively minor compared to potential repair costs ranging from $500 to $2,600 for neglected systems. Establishing a regular maintenance schedule based on your installer's recommendations helps avoid costly emergency services.
