"Donavan was the pro that did the work (drywall a room in my basement), he was very nice, very timely and kept me informed all along the way. He cleaned up every day and completed the work according to schedule. I would definitely recommend WMA and Donavan, and use them again for my home projects."

"I called a few places for quotes. The first person to get back to me was Eric from Vangoye Home Improvement. It turned out that I was outside of their service area, but Eric took the time to listen to what my problem was. He then gave me the names of the products I needed and the steps I could take to fix it myself, as the problem wasn't as big or difficult as I originally thought. Not only will I be able to knock out this project in a weekend, it ended up saving me close to $300."

"This is one of the BEST COMPANIES I have ever worked with! They are very responsive & HONEST!! - After they excavated the sites it was discovered there where Helical piers from a past job of theirs from many years ago... maybe even 20 years ago. Nolan Beery came down to Indianapolis to see the piers first hand - and covered them with their lifetime warranty. I was not the original owner that added the piers... they found the receipt that they did do the work many years ago for a previous owner of my home. They covered majority of the pier sites under their warranty. THERE ARE FEW COMPANIES THAT HAVE THIS HONESTY & INTEGRITEY LIKE ACCULEVEL. Acculevel is one of the best companies I have worked with. Hands down if you need any foundation work by a professional company that stands by their work Acculevel is the choice!"

"My service tech, Jordan Foy, called promptly in the morning and arrived right on schedule. He was friendly, knowledgeable and did a great job installing my sump pump and the underground line. He made sure I approved of what he was going to do each step of the way. He was also very nice to my golden retriever puppy who wanted to be his assistant. I will be using Ayers Basement Systems again for additional work on my basement next spring."

"Jim is a nice guy, and his services a pretty good value. I would definitely work with him again if I were strapped for cash and I didn't value my time very much. <br /> Jim came over promptly the very same day I emailed him asking if he could give me a quote on replacing a couple of spigots. Then he took ~2 weeks to email me with a quote, which was simply his hourly rate. We scheduled a date for him to perform the work on a weekday at noon; he was an hour late, which was inconvenient, but not a huge deal. He replaced the spigots, and the work looked good. However, about a week later, I noticed one of the spigots was leaking into the basement at the point where Jim had hooked it up to the pipe in the basement ceiling. Jim came back to look at it, and he insisted that nothing he did would have caused the leak. He then went on to say that he really doesn't prefer to do plumbing (that would have been helpful to know before I asked him to do this job). Despite his defensiveness, to Jim's credit, he did call a plumber friend of his to come repair the leak at no charge to us (P.S. The plumber said that Jim was definitely responsible for the leak). <br /> I wanted to give Jim the benefit of the doubt because he is a nice guy, and because he's a great deal, so I asked him to come back to take care of some old wiring in the basement ceiling (I figured I'd try a non-plumbing job). We agreed to meet on a weekday at 1 o'clock. Of course I took off work to meet him here at the house, and he was a no-show. When I called him to ask if we were still on, he apologized and said he got caught up at another job and forgot about our appointment. That's when I decided to call it quits on him. He's just a little too unprofessional for me to want to work with him on a consistent basis. <br />"

"The crew did a great job on our home. They took the time to do it right, they were professional, with a keen eye for detail. There were unforseen issues with the house, which was taken care of without so much as a bat of the eye. In final, they lived up to and surpassed my expectations. I would Definately hire them again"

"I originally purchased the deal to install a doggie door in my basement door but needed additional work done also.  Tim contacted me and we discussed the doggie door and since he couldn't fit in the whole days work for quite a while and I needed the doggie door within 2 weeks, he told me he could fit me in for the doggie door but he would have to put me on his waiting list.  So here we go, right off the bat I had to pay for the doggie door separately because he had no time in his schedule for some time to fulfill a whole days work (got the $299 for a whole day)  After you purchase it, you find out that it is only for 6 1/2 hours of work or 3 1/4 hours if 2 guys are working on it.  When he came, he started the work but was having issues getting it all the way in.  So he pulled the door back out after working on it for a half hour and brought it up to show me what the issue was.  I asked him if he gave it all he had to push it in and he said he would try again.  Seems he had no problem getting it in after that.  So good he got it done, but con he wasted time taking it back out and putting it back in when he could have had me go down there to look at it.  When he arrived, I asked if he would have time to put together an entertainment center I had just purchased and found that it was way over 100 lbs so I could not assemble it like I thought I could.  He said yes but needed his helper.  After installing the doggie door, he started getting all the parts arranged and completed it when his helper finally arrived.  Tim did a good job so happy about that part of it.  Then scheduled him to do the baseboard to use my deal for the whole days work.  He arrived and set up the saw and got started and then his helper arrived and they completed the work. I was pleased with the work. <br /> Though Tim's work is good.  I was a little put off by his comments about his pricing.  He is a lot more expensive than other companies and he made some comments to defend his pricing and also talked about another client though he didn't name the person, of course.  Tim does a good job and he is overall a pleasant fellow, but I was disappointed with the overall value. <br />"

"It was great and they did a wonderful job.  We had to call them out again because part of the home was still leaking, but they took care of it.  I had no problems scheduling. The technicians were professional, cleaned up after themselves, and were in and out.  Our basement flooded every year, and now we have no problems.  I was very pleased."

"Eric came out and did the estimate about a week and half before he and his partner came to preform the work.  He was prompt and very professional.  Most importantly he made me feel comfortable.  In the past when I had a builder or contractor out to give an estimate they have made me feel like I don't know what I am doing and/or talking about because I am a woman.  Eric never made me feel that way the whole time I worked with him.  We are getting ready to put our house for sale and we needed a few things done to our partially finished basement.  The previous owners tried to finish the basement their self and cut a few corners in doing so.  Eric suggested a few inexpensive ways to fix these issues and make the basement look like a million dollars.  We will SO use Innovative Builders in the future.  Thank you so much for your hard work and making our home look amazing! <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Kendall, MI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
