"We worked with both Cory and Darin on our project, and both of them understood our kitchen cabinet budget and worked within it. Compared to other providers, the product we purchased and had installed was in the same price range. Our cabinets, however, have a few more included features that were add-ons for other manufacturers whom we quoted. Cory was (and remains) very attentive to our needs. If you're looking to remodel or upgrade your kitchen, we recommend you visit Darin Fisher Designer Kitchens."

"We had bought a house several years ago and within a few months of owning the house our basement leaked water.  After several years of litigation and numerous episodes of the basement leaking we started looking for a contractor to fix the basement problem.  After getting estimates from a half a dozen companies, we decided that we were going to use <strong>Alternative Building Concepts, Inc</strong>.  I will say there estimate was a bit higher than the other ones, but you get what you pay for.  Due to us being in a law suit at the time of the construction, I wanted a company that was professional and a company that was going to document the damage and their work.  I further wanted a company that would be competent to testify in court if needed.  They were all of above and more.  We could not have asked for a more professional group of guys.  Mr. Blankenship explained to us all the work that was going to be performed and provided us with a written estimates for each phase of the process.  The price of the work quoted never changed. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />When they started the work inside the basement it was amazing how neat they were, which was a concern of ours (especially drywall work).  Once the outside work started it took longer than anticipated due to the weather (rain and lots of it), but the work was completed in a professional manner and throughout the process Mr. Blankenship kept us up to date with the process and any issues that arose.  Once the work was completed everything was put back together neatly.  After the work was completed several small issues arose and each time I called Mr. Blankenship, someone was there to fix it the same day.  I would highly recommend Alternative Building Concepts, Inc. for any project. <br />"

"I like the fact he was honest and very helpful with explaining to me exactly what I needed. He finished the job before his deadline . Not to mention he did a great job and it really helped the look of my house. I also decided to hire his company to replace my siding & build a deck. My house finally looks like the dream home I've always wanted. I would highly recommend this company and will definitely use them again for any of my construction needs. <br />"

"It was a truly beautiful restoration from that water damage.  Initially finding the water leak source required cutting drywall, removing damaged carpet and flooring.  The leak was located under the master bath garden tub.  The lead was not big enough to hear and the hunt for it was difficult.  Repairing, flooring from under that garden tub, then the master bath, the hallway and laundry room.  The flooring in the bath was fixed with vinyl flooring, carpeting in the bedroom, hall and laundry room. The bath was also repaired from water damage.  Once the new sub-flooring was set, new carpet pads and carpet were installed. In the bedroom, wainscoting was repaired with new wainscoting, chair rail, and baseboard. After the painting of those materials with new double doors the master bedroom looks better than when new 20 years ago.  I believe when answering "we want all the details" I need to state the level of professionalism, attention to detail plus customer satisfaction were 3 of the best "answers" to that question "we want all the details." <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Kilsyth, WV

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
