"I had the carpets cleaned in a 3 story condo in preparation for showing it for sale.  Expert Carpet Care was excellent from start to finish.  Their office staff is friendly and efficient,  and the estimator was both friendly and knowledgeable.  Although there was only one technician, he expertly handled the hoses and equipment up multiple floors.  He worked hard, was very fast and did a great job.  In addition he was very polite and personable.  <br /> Overall, great company - highly recommend! <br />"

"The salesman met us in our home on a Sunday within a week of our initial call. He was very professional and showed us a range of options at different price points. However, Costco does not sell "cheaper" carpet, so even the least expensive options were rather "high-end." We got a good deal on a very nice Shaw berber carpet with Stainmaster protection and a very soft upgraded pad, which makes it very comfortable to walk on barefoot. We were told it would be installed in less than 1 week, but it was actually about 2 weeks before installation. A couple calls to Costco's central number were required to follow-up on the situation before we received a return call from the installer. On the day of installation, they arrived earlier than the scheduled time and finished ahead of schedule. They do move furniture, but with some major caveats. We had to hire a piano mover to move our grand piano out of the way -- the installers wouldn't touch that. They also will not move any electronics, and they ask that drawers be removed from furniture (or emptied out if the drawers can't be removed). This wound up being very time-consuming for us. But overall we are very satisfied with the results -- a huge upgrade!"

"I have used New York Carpets several times over the past several years. First when I had my old house they replaced a lot of carpet over the years and then when moving into my new house they installed bedroom carpet before this experienced. <br /> Obviously I keep returning for one reason only. They have very good prices, and do very good work.  <br />  They were prompt when they were scheduled to start work, removed the old carpet, and then installed the new carpet. The living room/dining room is one large room and there must be several seams to to get it completely covered. There work is so professional that you can't see the seams, which were also done as much as possible on the sides. When they did the measurements, they took time to fit the carpet with maximum coverage and minimal waste, reducing the cost further. When they were done, there was so little waste that I wasn't work saving for anything other than a small piece in the event there is a need to repair the carpet in the future. <br /> I would recommend them unequivocally and will use them in the future. <br /> They also have some other tile and simulation wood material. I purchased some of that for my former house as well as carpeting, and again the prices were quite good and work installing it was very professional. <br />"

"Tenant had left our living room carpet badly soiled so we called Quality Carpet Cleaning after researching the Angie's List. We were confused when a van from Sunshine Carpet Cleaning arrived at the appointed time but was assured he was with Quality Carpet Cleaning. We were delightfully surprised when he was finished since the carpet was really clean except for a small yellow stain which he said was permanent with is much better than before. Yes we would hire them again."

"John and the staff at Alden's Carpet and Drapes are absolutely the best.  They're friendly, knowledgeable and work to your schedule.   We installed new carpet in two large master bedrooms, a hallway, landing and stairs.  The installation crew arrived at 7:30 AM, moved all the furniture, including an upright piano, had the old carpet and padding removed and new padding and carpet installed and the furniture back in place before 11:00 AM.  These guys are the greatest."

"I was pretty happy with them. Their customer service was really good and also their carpet selection. It was pretty cheap actually; it was cheaper than other places. They actually just sell the carpet and then they refer us to a list of their carpet installers."

"The owner/salesperson Jason is extremely knowledgeable about his products and other products in the market.  He answered all of my questions completely and I felt educated about all the choices and steps in the process.  We appreciated his understanding of the merchandise and we were most comfortable that Carpet Spectrum focused on carrying higher end materials.  Much of the product line was U.S. built (engineered hardwood floors) or from select high end European manufacturers. <br /> We also learned that they are the main installer of Costco flooring after we elected to research Costco flooring services and were referred to Carpet Spectrum.  Interestingly, Costco supplies the high quality materials and selects a local contractor for installation. <br /> Jason also explained that Costco will research and evaluate installers that they use in local markets and you can tell that Carpet Spectrum is a quality organization. <br /> As all categories were rated with an A, a "B" was given for pricing as Carpet Spectrum had a higher estimate than other companies.  During the estimate phase, Jason explained that his company would be 5 to 10% higher than the competition in his sales pitch yet we ended up feeling the added premium is worth the quality of both the materials and workmanship.  As we decided to use the quality Costco product, we also earned the rebate when you use the Costco American Express card plus a cash card due to a the size of the installation. <br />   <br /> Their specialized, hardwood installers showed up on time according to the agreed schedule -- in this regard, the best on any of the number of contractors we used over the last 11 years. <br /> The hardwood installers - full time Carpet Spectrum Employees with over 9 years of experience - were polite and their attention to detail was excellent.  I watched as they moved furniture, put on heavy felt pads on the furniture to prevent future scuffing on the hardwood floors, demolished the existing floors, removed all the nails -when humanly possible - from the existing subfloor to best prepare the subfloor to receive the layer of plywood underneath the engineered hardwood (per manufacturer guidelines), the black tar felt paper (for moisture control recommended by Shaw), cleaning up each day (they swept and vacuumed at the conclusion of a work day), asked permission to use different spaces for equipment storage/use during the job, and the installation of the new floor.  <br /> Early in the process, the installer showed me a piece with more of the dark colored knots (the engineered hardwood is a natural product with a layer of birch or the premium wood with plywood underneath) and asked if this type of piece was OK for use or to be put only in less visible areas or eventually cut for end pieces.  I decided on end pieces or closets so the main installer and his coworker sorted through pieces to make sure only the best pieces were used in the visible areas.  His initiative was a thoughtful question as prior to starting I did not think about the wide variances in a natural product like wood - it helped to make the floor look great. <br /> When I pointed out 1 flaw -- the only one I found throughout the entire process of the several days of work - in the connection between 2 pieces of hardwood that would probably sit under the refrigerator, the installer went back and removed 2 to 3 ft of work with a device that cuts the nails used to secure the hardwood to the plywood underlayer (the floors were nailed and not glued per the choice of my wife and myself) and found a piece that would have a tighter fit at the connection to make sure I felt great about the entire job. <br /> The work to cut the concrete around the base of the fireplace to provide the illusion that the fireplace was built on the floor, the pieces used to make it appear the existing kitchen cabinetry was installed after the floor and the work on the 2 stairs in the house show great attention to detail. <br /> The workers showed pride through their work and were extremely hard working. <br /> Jason stopped in on 2 or 3 different occasions for the project that lasted more than a week to ask how the process was going.  We appreciated the attention to detail on his part. <br /> For a project of this cost and size - we basically put in new floors to the entire house, we wanted the project to be done right and were willing to pay more for high quality materials and the best installers.  We wanted a company with installers - fully licensed and insured -  on staff so they would feel ownership over the entire process. <br /> We are extremely pleased with the quality of the materials used, the finished product, effort done by the company and their staff, and highly recommend Carpet Spectrum to anyone who plans to do new hardwood floors. <br /> <br />"

"Carpet purchase and installation always went well and without a hitch. When I was interested in flooring, I did not get that great education, nor did I get what I thought was a good price. I am ready to redo the kitchen and dining room floor . I walked in to look at what they had in the showroom. All the helpers were in the office and never welcomed me, nor did they attempt to help me in any way. I decided to walk out. If they don't want to wait on their customers, I can go elsewhere...and I did."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in La Mirada, CA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
