"As usual with Garafano Electric, everything went fine -- way more than fine, actually. We have used them for years on various upgrades to our 1920's mediterranean home. William, the owner, is great about explaining our options and always finds the best and most efficient way to work within the confines of an older two-story duplex on a sloped lot that has serious access issues. Pricing is fair, they have never failed to show up on the appointed day, and on time, and complete the job as agreed. They have never disappointed for over 20 years, and I recommend them without hesitation!"

"I called them about an electrical panel upgrade and they responded immediately. They looked at some pictures and heard our situation, did their calculations, and it turns out that we didn't need an electrical panel upgrade. Other companies might have done the calculations but gone along with us thinking we needed work done to get some business, but these guys were honest and upfront and ended up saving us a good amount of money."

"Excellence Electric is just that: excellent on every level. They did a panel upgrade and install of a level 2 electric car charger. The company is family owned (father and son). They did a tremendous job at a very good price. Their attention to detail and workmanship was remarkable. They had to run conduit up the back of my house. They matched the paint at Home Depot that perfectly blended with our house color. Such personable, honest people. Ray jr. told me as he was walking from the job: any problems, or concerns, we’ll take care of it no questions asked. I could not more highly recommend!"

"We bought a ring pro doorbell that required us to upgrade the transformer. We had an old transformer that ran at 10V. I thought we needed a 16V (this was the answer to our problem according to Ring and my research) so we finally caved and looked for multiple quotes online. Raul from Citywide Electric was in my second round of quotes. He contacted me within minutes of my request. By far he gave me the best price, was the only one to actually call me, was professional and answered all my questions. His workers showed up on time, were kind, curteous and respectful of our home. They completed the work quickly and efficiently. We then proceeded to install the ring doorbell but to our disappointment after installing, calling customer support and researching found that we need a higher voltage transformed (soo annoyed). I called Raul back to see how much it would be to get a higher voltage transformer. He offered to do the exchange and would only charge us the price difference of the transformer. We will DEFINETLY be using Citywide Electric for our future projects. Thank you!!"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in La Habra, CA

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
