Small jobs welcome

"Would not recommend these people for foundation repair. My appointments were rescheduled 2 times with little to no communication. Took time off of work to be home for the installation and canceled on me that morning. Work quality was ok but definitely too expensive."

"One of three quotes we got on our home for a big project involving cracked beams/joists and piers. Suresafe gave us a quick inspection followed by a quote- with the wrong math. When emailed questions pertaining to the 15k+ project few were answered- and when I called their tone was that I clearly didn't know much about foundation repair. I value when someone takes time to share expertise in their area of work so I am comfortable paying that amount of money- I did not feel that in this interaction. Opted to not use their services."

"Russell Progue spent an incredible amount of time with me on the phone regarding a crack in a sim wall (I sent photos of the crack). He explained the purpose of the sim wall (the house is on a raised foundation) and his opinion as to whether or not it was a structural issue. He was very informative, patient, and honest! He easily could have charged my clients hundreds of dollars for a formal inspection. Instead, he provided his opinion, advised his fees for a formal inspection and repair, and left it up to my buyers to decide how they wanted to proceed. He even offered to talk with my buyers about the crack, free of charge! As a realtor, I am always looking for professional and honest contractors. Acuterra (especially Mr. Progue) has earned my trust and I will call them again when the opportunity arises."

"I recently had the pleasure of working with Brandon Forss, the owner and operator of Forss Construction Co. He came to my home in Temecula and did an outstanding job with my recent remodeling project. I was impressed with his punctuality and preparedness. Brandon's task was to remove an obstructive wall and close up some open drywall left unfinished from a previous home improvement project that was started and not yet completed. He arrived with all the necessary demolition tools and removed the studs and drywall efficiently, in large enough pieces for reuse later. He was highly skilled at drywall skimming and general remodeling. Within seven hours, he had completed the work, and it was impressive. The billing rate he provided was competitive compared to other contractors, and I would not hesitate to hire him again or recommend him to others. I have seen Brandon's incredible work elsewhere, and he manages to stay up-to-date with recent trends while adhering to his family's construction legacy. Being a plumber by trade, his skills perfectly reflect his father's teachings from 40 years ago, which he carries on with pride. Brandon's electronic invoice generation and receipt system are impressive, and it is also highly efficient, which I greatly appreciated for tax purposes. He is one of the hardest working contractors I have worked with during the remodel of my 1988 tract home. Overall, I highly recommend Brandon Forss as a contractor. His work is swift, efficient, and done well with care. He gets the job done right and is highly professional to work with. If you need a contractor who knows what he is doing, then Brandon is your guy."

"I brought in three contractors for bids on this project.  The bids ranged from $13,400 (Tafoya) to $26,000 dollars. <br /> <br /> These guys are great.  They show up when they say they will, start work promptly, work hard all day, and clean up before they end the day.  This job involved moving plants, sprinkler piping, mulch, and dirt away from the house so they could hand-dig the trench beside the foundation.  They kept the moved plants watered and in good shape for the two-plus weeks it took to do the job.  When they finished, everything was back in its place. <br /> <br /> Jorge and his team are very professional and know what they're doing.  There were no cost over-runs or hidden expenses.  As one would expect with an old house, once they dug down they found out there was no footing under the front porch steps, so they had to pour some concrete to support it and put up the waterproofing, this added $500 to the overall cost; which I thought was reasonable and acceptable. <br /> <br /> Not only do I recommend Jorge, this is who I will turn to for all future construction/repair of my home."

"Fantastic!!! I cannot speak highly enough of the guys and gals at Berkley Construction. After dealing with some, we'll say, less than competent construction companies, these guys were a god send. Organized, communicative and so easy to deal with right from the start, they made every step of the process so much easier and more smooth than it could have been otherwise. You should at the very least include them in your bid gathering, as I think they will blow you away with their competence, something that is sadly rare in this field."

"<p> </p> <p>San Diego Master Craftsmen (SDMC), owned by President Jon Hammer (licensed General Contractor), prides itself on thorough project planning and top quality construction. Mr. Hammer is selective in the projects undertaken to assure that the client?s priorities (quality, cost, & schedule) align with SDMC priorities, with quality being priority number one. SDMC limits the number of projects undertaken at one time to assure that Mr. Hammer and his staff will have the time to be thoroughly involved with each project from start to finish. For this house renovation, the project was divided between a design phase and a construction phase, with separate contracts for each phase. The design phase contract was at no cost to the clients as long as the clients proceeded to the construction phase. For the construction phase, this project was split to accommodate the client?s wishes to live in one half of the house while construction was performed on the other half, and then vice versa. Dividing the construction into two phases extended the project schedule as it meant all trade personnel would have to do their work in two different time periods. This scheduling approach was appreciated by the clients whose priorities were quality #1, cost #2, and schedule #3.</p> <p> </p> <p>During the design phase, SDMC worked diligently with the clients to define in great detail the project tasks and materials list. Significant effort was spent to minimize any construction surprises, even opening walls (with permission) if needed. As a method to assure quality, SDMC screened and carefully selected only subcontractors (the ?craftsmen?) that are proven, very experienced, and generally highly rated on various review sites. All of the project subcontractors visited the project site during the design phase to participate in the planning and estimating, thus helping to avoid the risk of construction surprises. This process also enabled the clients to meet and assess the personnel who would later be working on the job site; it was a positive experience. Although the clients spent considerable time and effort to describe the detailed project objectives and do preliminary designs, SDMC provided an excellent designer, Heidi, to work with the clients to refine the designs and assist in the picking of finishing details; she was very helpful and a pleasure to work with.</p> <p> </p> <p>The construction phase was completed without any significant surprises, a tribute to the thoroughness of the design phase. There were only two change orders, both of which were initiated by the clients. The quality of the craftsmen?s work was consistently good to excellent; any call-backs were of a minor nature or touch-ups. Noteworthy outstanding work was performed by the craftsmen in the areas of cabinetry, tile setting, drywall, ceiling finishing, flooring, and stucco. A particularly challenging construction task was the alteration and finishing of the master suite to be aging-in-place friendly including a curbless walk in shower with linear drain; the finished result is both functional and beautiful, and has already served as an example to prospective SDMC clients. There were two schedule impacting problems during the project, neither of which were the fault of SDMC. The first and biggest problem was a high-end purchased front entry door set that would never close properly; SDMC & the clients teamed cooperatively in a ten week dispute with the door manufacturer who finally agreed the door set was faulty and then manufactured a new set which took another six weeks. SDMC adjusted the construction schedule to work around the problem as best as possible, but the door delay did impact project finishing by a couple months. The other problem was with a tankless water heater that sporadically would stop heating water during showers. Again, SDMC worked diligently with the manufacturer, retailer, and plumber to attain resolution for a difficult problem due to its intermittent nature. Both problems must have cost impacted SDMC but never did they balk at standing behind their contract and completing the job as expected.</p> <p> </p> <p>All of the personnel on the project were professional, courteous, did not smoke on the job site, and never gave the clients any concerns about their presence. The clients were especially appreciative and thankful for SDMC?s on-site foreman, Rick; his attention to detail and creativeness reflected his lifetime experience in the field. At times, the clients felt the project cost may have been a little high, but acknowledge that attaining meaningful cost comparisons for a project of this scope is difficult. In the end, the clients recognize that obtaining quality work from professional & reliable trade personnel has a price tag, thus the clients feel the project cost was fair for the results attained. The clients therefore recommend SDMC be considered for any medium to large remodeling project, especially where quality has a higher priority than cost.</p> <p> <br /> <br /></p> <br />"

FAQs for foundation, basement or crawlspace waterproofing / encapsulation projects in La Jolla, CA

The most affordable way to waterproof your basement is with interior methods like waterproof paint, costing between $1 and $8 per square foot, or silicate concrete sealers priced at $4 to $6 per square foot. However, these solutions are only suitable for certain issues. If your basement moisture is due to more serious problems like a cracked foundation, you'll need more extensive (and costly) repairs.

Absolutely! Waterproofing your basement is a smart investment that can increase your home's value. By keeping your basement dry and free of moisture problems, you protect your home's structural integrity and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Plus, taking proactive measures now can prevent costly water damage repairs down the line.

The time required to waterproof a basement depends on the selected method. Some approaches to interior waterproofing, like paint or sealant, can be completed within a day. Installing new drains or weeping tiles will need at least two to three days of labor. Any forms of exterior waterproofing that require you to excavate land will require an additional three days of work to prepare the ground.

Yes, basement waterproofing can significantly increase your home's value. A dry, leak-free basement is a strong selling point for potential buyers, enhancing your property's desirability and market price. Investing in professional waterproofing not only protects your home's structural integrity but also ensures a healthier living environment by preventing mold and mildew growth.

Waterproofing both the interior and exterior of your basement offers the best protection against moisture. Exterior waterproofing stops water from penetrating your foundation, while interior methods manage any moisture that does enter. If you must choose one, exterior waterproofing is generally more effective, as it prevents water from reaching your home's interior in the first place.
