"The process took a week because they needed to coordinate with another contractor who was going to be ripping up the old carpet and sealing the concrete prior to new pad and carpet being placed. The first day was the kitchen and bathroom floors. There was a miscommunication when the carpets were ordered, as I mentioned that when they removed the old toilet I had a new one ready to put in its place. So if they could coordinate the plumber, I would cover. That part got missed. The guys did manage to find a plumber to come out on short notice, who was really nice, and he even removed my old toilet for me. Extremely thankful for that! The following days were just coordinating with the other contractor who pulled up carpet in existing rooms, treating the floor, and then they would lay new carpet. I did call to tell them that I was concerned with the seams in the kitchen. My feet would keep catching on something, and on one it didn't quite look sealed right. They came out next day, tried to reassure me that it was excess glue, and that it would rub down over time. He even picked at some of it. To this day I'm not happy with the seal by the stove, it doesn't look right. It's very obvious. I was told that the seals would not be that noticeable. <br />"

"They estimated the tile incorrectly and when I asked if I could return it they said oh yes but failed to tell me that there was a restocking charge. That would not have been so bad but the girl that estimated the amount of tile told me it was better to have extra, this is also true except I had about 1/3 more tile than I needed."

"The salesman said there would be minimal dust and when the installation was finished it took me three days to clean the inch and a half of dust off my walls ceiling cabinets fixtures, etc. my dining set was ruined and I had to buy another one. I paid 300.00 extra for base shoe which was missing along parts of the floor. Two days after installation I noticed that one of the corners of the tile had been cut off near my front door, so I called my salesman at the store who informed me that he would pass along to customer service and they would be calling within the next day or two. After a week of hearing nothing I went down to the store with a picture of it. Finally the Installer called me, I never did hear from anyone from the store, the installer came out and cut some base shoe to place over the cut corner of the tile but he forgot his nail gun so he caulked it to the trim! I chose Hiller flooring because they had really good reviews, I will never do business with them again. I still have heard nothing from Hiller."

"The experience has been good. They have been quick to get the work done when I needed it done and did a good job with it. I've been happy with their work. We were trying to match the carpet in one room with the rest of the house. They did pretty good job with that."

"Fantastic. I called other installers first, and didn't even get a reply. Marshall responded promptly to my request and was able to fit me in. He even made and extra trip for me, back and forth from my house to Menards, to double check that they were cutting the right size. Marshall was friendly, professional and prompt. The price charged was more than fair. We have more flooring replacement needs, and will definitely be returning to Guy Flooring."

"Wanda Hofstad was amazing. She helped my husband and I pick out tile for a bathroom and was extremely patient while I changed my mind and color scheme more than once. We love the stock tile we ended up with. I ordered more after the fact and somehow realized I had the wrong shade after I had brought 10 boxes into the house. They went out of their way to deliver the correct color. This saved me a huge headache because the installer was here and needed the tile asap. They provided multiple bids on granite countertops, offering a variety of stones and the option to use a remnant for the center island, saving us a lot of money over the 3 other companies we had bids with. The guys in the granite shoppe were very knowledgable helpful. I love the job they did for us!"

"In early August, 2014, we shopped at several places for replacement carpeting for our living room, bedroom, hall, den and stairs (all the same carpet) and wanted the job done by Labor Day Weekend.  We chose KB Carpet to do the job because we liked and trusted Kevin, the owner, and felt that the price for the quality of the carpet and pad we chose was very fair.  We had had problems with a seam showing on our old carpet and Kevin promised us that he would install the carpet and that because the carpet we chose came in a 15 ft width there would only need to be two seams and that they would not show.  Also, the installation would be done in our <br /> time frame.  We gave them half of the purchase price on August 9th, 2014. <br /> However, they got back to us the following week and said the manufacturer couldn?t provide the carpet in the time frame promised.  <br /> We decided to wait and have it done by KB anyway. <br /> The date of Monday, September 15th, was set for installation and Kevin said the whole job would be done in one day.  When we <br /> called just before the weekend to check, Kevin said it would be Tuesday before he could get here. <br /> Tuesday came and it wasn?t until just before noon that two workers (not Kevin) showed up saying that they would be doing the job.  They said that KB had waited until the morning of the installation to pick up the carpet in the Twin Cities (about 70 miles away). On the way back, their truck broke down, and it was middle afternoon when the carpet finally got here. <br /> It took until the afternoon of the next day to finish the job.  We really liked the carpet but there were 4 seams showing (a couple of the seams appeared to be patches where they had measured incorrectly) and where the carpet met other flooring the edges were stapled <br /> and the staples showed badly.  The installers said that the carpet needed to relax and that those problems would disappear. <br /> It soon became evident that they were not disappearing.  We called the installers as we had been instructed, and they came over <br /> to work on them with no real improvement.  We called Kevin to come over to look at the problem and the installers came back again.  This time they pulled out the staples from the edges and installed an invisible metal edge.  They also worked on the seams again with <br /> little improvement.  In talking to Kevin, he said he could fix the seams without pulling up the edges.  Days later he said he couldn?t do so and would need to pull up the carpeting edges.  He also said he couldn?t come until after Thanksgiving.  Then we made the decision to wait until after the holidays because furniture would again have to be moved. <br /> Because of illness, vacations, and other reasons ? some our doing and some Kevin?s ? he and the original installers finally came back in Feb. 2015 and fixed the seams as best they could.  Of the 4 seams that were badly showing, 3 were fixed pretty well.  The one remaining seam that is still is not to our satisfaction is in our bedroom hall area.  They told us to wait a year for the carpet to soften and they could come back and fix it again. <br /> Would we buy from KB again? Yes, but only if Kevin did the installing.  Also, we would not pay KB in full until we were completely satisfied. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Lake City, MN

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
