"Eddie Drake and his crew did an awesome job! I have found it rare that a contractor does everything they say they will do...and then more! Eddie communicated with us to keep us up to date on the start date, then started when they promised. He was in touch with us daily to check on the progress of the job and visited himself to be sure everything was to our satisfaction. The work crew was clean with the materials and very respectful. They took a lot of pride in their work. They told us each day which area of the house they planned on working so we were able to move our cars out of the garage to have access. The siding was exactly what we ordered and installed perfectly. Any little thing, and they were few, we saw was fixed the very next day. The project manager, Steve, was also there daily to check the work and make sure we were pleased. The workmanship was so good that we even added a new picture window to the job. That too, was installed in a timely manner, and again, cleanly and efficiently. Even after the job was completed, they came back and reinstalled a cable wire that I asked him to move - the next day. They even replaced some screens, that were old, and to be sure they all matched, they replaced all of them in that area of the house at no additional charge. When everything was finished, you would never know anyone was there, with the exception of a perfect exterior! (The perfect company name!) It was a pleasure to work with Eddie and his team. Many positive comments about the finished product. I would highly recommend."

"for : a patch, some sealing around vents and finally for a completely new roof this winter when multiple leaks and standing snow convinced me I had to have a roof replacement. For a big ticket item, it was a relatively painless process. Contacting them was easy and and polite (Jennifer!). Evaluating the work needed was a transparent process and explained clearly (Matt). Each time work crews came to my house they arrived when they said they were coming and finished the work in the time specified (Steve). I have nothing but good things to say and recommend them for your roofing project."

"• TH was the single best home service I have experienced in the region in 48 years. Immediate response to my Niagra-Falls-in–the-living-room panic call. Next day I had an estimate with options for me so I could do the job on my very meager budget. A few days later, what seemed like an army of workers showed up at 7:00am and by 3:30 in the afternoon I had a new roof and there wasn’t any evidence that anybody had been here. Amazing. The job was done for $3000. less than a quote I had from another roofer three years earlier and offered a lifetime guarantee. (Makes selling the house down the road, much easier. I can transfer the guarantee with the house). This company is amazingly professional and comfortable to work with. • 7400."

"My husband explained to Alan from Westside what we wanted done. Alan explained the best way to do the project. He was very impressed  with his knowledge of the various projects we proposed. Alan got back with a competitive and fair price. The workers who arrived were the most courteous, skilled and hard working crew my husband has seen in a while. They went above and beyond professional thru and thru. The best compliment you could give a company is to have them return to do additional jobs. Suffice to say Alan is stopping by for another consultation for the next project lined up. Thanks again Westside."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Lake Katrine, NY

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
