"Amer was absolutely top notch. He came out in 30 mins on a Saturday morning to take a look at the project- rewire barn, new panel box, pool pump set up. He then came out as the pool was being installed, on his own, to make sure it was going well and to find out info about the pump for his part of the job. He came out a few days later and completed everything perfectly, went above and beyond and made everything aesthetically pleasing. After the job was completed, he then proceeded to walk me through everything he had done and explained why, and even going so far as to explain how my home generator works (weâ re new home owners), as well as upgrade our old dingy barn lights. We already have another project set up with him in for late summer/early fall. Amer communicated wonderfully, completed the job perfectly and went above and beyond. I canâ t recommend him any higher!"

"Daniel addressed a not so straightforward switch replacement that I had botched. Not only did have to install it right but also had to diagnose and replace the circuit breaker in the panel. He also had to further diagnose a wire that had been melted and address that as well. He showed great problem solving skills, cleaned up and was extremely professional and friendly. Even though the job took much longer than expected, he still only charged what he had initially stated. Would hire again."

"Mr. Haleem was amazing. Very friendly and knowledgeable. He installed 8 LED Pot lights for me and installed a switch that was previously non existent. He treated my house like his own and cleaned up when he was done. I'd highly recommend him to anyone looking for anything related to electrical work. You will not be disappointed. His prices are VERY competitive. I will be using him 100% of the time going forward."

"Joe arrived on time to examine the problem and immediately knew what had happened. He explained his theory (that the line had been cut) very clearly and demonstrated why he thought so. His expertise based in experience in dealing with similar problems were absolutely perfect for the job I needed done. He scheduled the work promptly and showed on time with 2 colleagues since a fair amount of digging was required. They dug up the old line and replaced it with a new line—upgraded by running it through rigid tubing so it couldn’t get cut ever again. I even got another unexpected and welcome upgrade since Joe provided a GFCI outlet on my patio. The team was very thorough and Joe was an excellent project manager. He is my new go-to for all things electric. I am very happy."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Lansing, IL

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
