"Joe was amazing. He quickly replaced the valves and installed the new fawcett. He was kind and patient, answered all our questions and cleaned up after he was done. We found a drip under one of the bathroom sinks after he left so we called and he came right back. Turns out it was the hose that was faulty and he replaced it, no charge, even though it was our hose and had nothing to do with his work. Would highly recommend Las Cruces Plumbing and especially JOE!"

"Dan of Hydra plumbing and Mechanical along with Gene Gutierrez gave us a 1500 dollar estimate for a bathroom remodel in 1 month and it turned into a $2300 4 month job. They had us buy more supplies than we needed. I have 12 boxes of tile, mortar, and polymer additive leftover and I cant return because its past the 90 day return window. Hydra plumbing and Mechanical hired these young kids to do the work and they didn’t take any pride their work. We bought more than enough grout for the whole job and they wasted it. There were still cracks and holes that needed to be filled in when they were already claiming that they were done. I pointed out what was missing and I had to buy more grout but they did not have the same color. They told me that they found the color and went ahead and completed it. Well it was not the same color and the grout in my supposable remolded bathroom does not match. The bottom is not flush and has different sized wide gaps that they filled with grout that fell out. There are gaps bigger than one inch filled with grout. The niche they installed is not even big enough to put a standard shampoo bottle in. The young kids they hired used my kitchen towels to clean up their grout and cut saw blade lines in my entrance stairs outside because they used it as a saw horse. They would even leave their tools outside overnight. One day I showed up to my bathroom getting drenched with water because they cut the pipe and turned the water back on without capping it. They didn’t even have a water key to turn it off and had to borrow my neighbor’s. The water key then became missing. They left the bottom of my house a mess with the demo material and after asking over and over to clean it, they did not pick it all up and now if there’s a leak under my house, i have to crawl over the debris they left. They did not tack back the insulation from the bottom. They installed the sub floor but forgot they had more plumbing to do so they cut a hole in the subfloor to get to the plumbing rather that going under the house because they knew of the mess they left down there. Now when I walk in the section of my bathroom you can hear creaking and cracking. They painted and you can still see the blue from the waterproof drywall they used they used We had a leak and asked them to come. They said they would go the next day but they had an emergency. The came and fixed it a week later. (still missing the water key) The first rain we got our ceiling fan/ light combo that they installed was leaking water. We called them and they said they would come in 3 days. 3 days came and went and we called them and they said they had an emergency and would get back with us. A week later we called and they scheduled to come look and that they would replace the water key. A worker came unannounced to check out the fan. He took it down said he fixed it. He left it hanging out of the ceiling unsecure not sealed and finished. Returned the water key. The next rain we had the light would not work but the fan would. We called Dan and he said he would come when he had a chance. He has not come and the light flickered and slowly started working once there was time to dry again. The next rain we had the light and fan stopped working completely till we had 2 days of sunshine. We called to have then come check it out. Scheduled and they had another emergency. Once side the wall in my bedroom and the entire bathroom lost power. We called them and they scheduled to come 2 days. 2 days came and they had an emergency. Gene came and said he would get an electrician to fix it for 100 dollars. The electrician fixed it and it was 500 dollars. (No warning or asking if I wanted to go through with paying more) The next rain we had the light would not work but the fan would. The light flickered and slowly started working once there was time to dry again. Now the light is still hanging out of the ceiling still flickering flickering, there’s tile and grout falling off. Dan showed up to see what was wrong and he replied “That’s it?” He said he would need more grout and started to leave. I asked him when planned to come and fix it and he replied next Monday. Now its 2 Mondays past and we have not heard from anyone. I definitely do not recommend Hydra Plumbing and Mechanical for any services. They are unprofessional and do not take pride in their work. I feel this review is necessary to prevent any other home owners from going through what me and my wife went through. We are definitely unsatisfied with the services that Gene Gutierrez and Dan of Hydra Plumbing and Mechanical attempted to provide. Will submit new review with pictures"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Las Cruces, NM

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
