"Paul and Laura were amazing from start to finish-giving the estimate, completing the job in two trips, etc. They made suggestions of shrubs and flowers, and listened to what I wanted. Their design skills were great. They were extremely professional, punctual, personable and so easy to work with. I would highly recommend them and will definitely use them in the future. My project was in NYC so it was not so easy to complete (so many complicating factors). In addition, they installed a timed sprinkler -water system which was great. Use them-you won’t be disappointed!"

Customers say: Quality work

"All of the work was done quickly, professionally, and met my high standards. The only problem arose when they installed my railings while I was out without having me select the style. I came home on the last day of work and everything was complete, even railings that I had not seen or approved. Initially, I didn't want to make them redo it. I thought I could live with it. I paid in full and they left. Ernesto called my husband to make sure we were happy. Everything seemed great, the work was well done, and everyone was professional. However, a few days later I realized I really hated the materials they chose for me. When my husband called back to see if they could change out the railings for us, they said it would cost about $500. I know I paid in full and approved the job, but after $8,000 worth of work, I thought it distasteful to be charged more money to change out materials that I never approved in the first place. I recommend their work, but be sure you approve every single material prior to installation.

"We had a 12x24 patio installed behind our townhouse. The job came out even better than we envisioned it! The worksite was always clean and tidy, with little disturbance to my neighbors. They worked swiftly and make my backyard into the oasis I was hoping for!"

"Excellent! I can't say enough good things about this project. We live in a 1920 Dutch Colonial, our walkway was falling apart. Miguel gave us samples to look at that would match our front Brick porch. The brickyard he sent us to allowed us to bring samples home to compare. He ordered what we wanted and within 4 days began the project. He came early in the morning and stayed well into the evening and completed the job in 2 days from demolition and removal of the old walk to the installation of the new one. He seeded the lawn that edged it. We selected him because he a patio and driveway and walkway for our nextdoor neighbors. We've lived here since 1974 and people trust the contractors we use. We highly recommend him and we always like to hire local owner operated businesses. For an additional fee he planted 2 trees in the front of the house. We are very satisfied."

"Installation crew worked very hard to complete the installation in a single day. We walked the property and discussed everything that was not defined in the initial plan. The final plumbing and setup steps were done quickly and efficiently. The crew tested each zone and adjusted the sprinkler heads for max coverage."

"I was pleased with the work.I initial meeting with Tonny was great, he informed
us on our male mulberry tree, and shared
tips on how to take better care him. Eve called and confirmed a date of
service, shortly after we received and confirmed on the contract. On
the day of pruning, Tonny and his team showed up on time and did an
amazing job on our tree! Our neighbor came over and was so impressed
that he too said he would call and use Double Tree for his tree! We also
mentioned Angie's List and we got a discount as well!  Thank you, thank
you, thank you! I strongly recommend Double Tree Services."

"This is now our second project with Roy and his Team. We recently tasked them with a large yard renovation and driveway project. The scope was very expansive: demo of existing hardscape, installation of drainage, grading, belgian block driveway curbs, belgian block apron, paver patio, sidewalks and more. The work and craftsmanship changed our whole yard and looks beautiful. The crew and Roy are respectful and friendly, highly recommend."

"We solicited several price quotes from members on and off of Angie's List.  Each contractor came out, spoke to us an provided a quote within a few days. Two of the five contractors followed up diligently, Ed was extremely persistent. He is very personable, and customer focused, he wants to ensure his customer is satisfied. He provided a price quote, worked with us on pricing options, paver styles and timeline. We were very impressed with his willingness to work with us by providing alternative solutions and his flexibility in bringing over various pavers to chose from.
We chose Cambridge Pavers. Ed informed us that there would be quite a few pallets delivered, but worked with his supplier to ensure the deliveries were in line to his workplan. In fact, he went to the suppliers location on several occasions to ensure alignment.
Ed and his team worked tirelessly installing the walkway and steps in the front. They look beautiful, our neighbors and friends let us know!!  Once the front was complete, they started on the back. The backyard was sloped, but not a problem for Ed and his crew, they turned what was once unusable, into what our friends call a resort. We love it!!
We had another contractor install a well-point in the pool area. This may have posed a problem for other contractors since the well is round and the pavers are squares and rectangles, but not Ed -- he promised to come back with a custom made paver. We were skeptical since when you hear a contractor "will come back" after being paid, you figure, they won't. Ed did -- he came back with a piece to fit the well-point -- now that is truly a contractor that cares.
We recommend Ed and his crew to anyone looking for an honest contractor who meets his timelines (weather permitting) and is willing to work with his customers. Truly a professional crew --"

FAQs for sod installation projects in Ledgewood, NJ

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
