"We hired Prolifik for our basement bathroom remodel, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. Our project manager Jon was professional, respectful, and incredibly skilled. He kept us informed every step of the way and was always available to answer our questions. We are looking forward to final results after our glass shower doors arrive. This process had exceeded our expectations, and the quality of the work is top tier! We highly recommend Prolifik and plan to use them for future projects!"

"Our project was completed to a standard that exceeded our expectations. When John first came out to see our house he listened carefully to our needs and vision for our home. He also made suggestions and gave us information we needed about the realities of such a large project. Soon he had prepared drawings for us that provided a more concrete presentation of his understanding of our wishes and a common focus for more idea development. We were initially very impressed that John seemed to understand our taste and lifestyle and he developed a plan that was not only functional and beautiful but highly personal. The major part of our project was a complete kitchen renovation, including the removal of a wall to open the kitchen into the dining room, the removal of a peninsula, and expansion of a window. Additionally, we replaced all of the ceilings and floors on the main level of the house. John arranged for an interior designer to meet with us and later take us shopping to select cabinets, tile, lighting, flooring, and countertop. We were told that the project would take 6-8 weeks but in fact all of the work described above was completed in exactly 30 days! At that point we had to wait a week for the quartz countertop to be installed. Under a separate contract, Striking Renovations then installed new doors on the main level and completely renovated our basement. We were extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism of all the workers in our home. All were very knowledgeable, conscientious and hard-working. Equally important to us, however, was that we were very comfortable having these people in,our home. Every day there were two to four men working on our job. Friends had told us to expect the workmen to "disappear" for a week or more while they managed multiple jobs. That was not our experience. Additionally, these men were friendly, cheerful, polite and respectful of us and our property. We completely trusted them, whether we were home or not. One aspect we would like to see this energetic young company develop would be the area of communication. We did feel that sometimes we waited too long for returned phone calls and that we were not always on the same page with verbal requests or questions. We eventually started clarifying important information by email-that seemed to eliminate further problems. But overall, we are VERY SATISFIED with the work, the people and the results we experienced with STRIKING RENOVATIONS. We recommend them to friends and neighbors and will be calling them again for future projects. <br />"

"Mosby solved some sticky floor system issues in our 1924-built home. They then went on to design and install fit and finish in a bathroom remodel that we had started ourselves (50/50 gut/rehab). They were happy to install fixtures we had purchased and offered solutions and options for bringing the main floor bath to a great completion. Jake did a great job specing-out the job, liaison between us and the designers and site crew, and following up afterwards. Mosby isn't the cheapest, but they are among the most competent. You pay for the experience and team assets they bring to the job. Frankly, I'd rather pay up front and be done, than continue to pay over and over again because I went with the lowest bid. <br />"

"Although I would prefer to just forget our experience with R&R, this review is provided only because of repeated requests from Angie's List to rate R&R Remodeling. I also prefer not to assign specific ratings to R&R for Price, Quality, responsiveness, Punctuality and Professionalism only because I do not know what extenuating circumstances may have caused the way that we were treated on this project, and I am not a judgmental person. I very generously gave them a "C" overall. You can judge for yourselves. Contract was signed for a sun room addition early July 2015. R&R did not obtain permit until October due to incorrect design and failure to expedite the permit process, so construction was delayed from mid Sept until end of Oct. Then R&R could not assure completion by January (when we left town), so rescheduled for June 2016 and instructed R&R to order materials to support new start date. 12 days before scheduled start date began calling R&R - no return calls. 4 days before scheduled start tricked R&R into answering the phone. R&R said they couldn't start because they hadn't ordered materials and superintendent they planned to use had quit. Immediately fired R&R and changed permit to Owner-managed. Obtained services of SK Construction who started 4 days after contract signing - and who provided the most outstanding service possible with respect to Price, Quality, Responsiveness, Punctuality and Professionalism."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Lenzburg, IL

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
