"John explained how the pan and surrounding wall were constructed, and showed us how water couldn't get into the wall. Rather than suggest replacing anything, he assured us that our equipment was sound and the installation was done correctly."

"Rick arrived on time, and was friendly and professional. He removed the toilet, replaced the wax seal, and reinstalled the toilet. The work was completed before i knew it. All traces of the work were cleaned up and removed, and what remained was a clean, dry floor, a clean toilet, and brilliant new caulking. Overall excellent in every way. Thanks Rick! I will definitely call Fletcher's if and when I need any plumbing work done in the future. AAA+++ <br />"

"We requested help on our reverse osmosis water filtration system.  The technician arrived the same day and was friendly and courteous.   He recommended that we buy a new system and said that we only need one filter to remove nitrates.  Upon further research, we discovered that several filters and a tank are required to filter nitrates.  He did not charge for the trip and told us to buy a new system and he would come and install it. "

"I love the Hignell Companies.   <br /> Everything was smooth and easy from the first call to the billing.  When I first called I was greeted by Justin, a very friendly guy.  He listened to my situation and clearly explained the services and costs.  I've forgotten a bit...but it was $60 or $70 for the hour of labor where they come to diagnose.   <br /> They sent me Bill, another wonderful, friendly, helpful person.  You know those Hignell radio commercials where a girl calls up and a gently gruff father-figure voice tells her that the Hignell Companies will help her with everything around the house?  It sounds so comforting (this ad is in fact why I called HIgnell), and the experience matched!   <br /> I'm always worried that handymen will think I'm stupid because I'm a girl and treat me impatiently or disrespectfully...or overcharge me!   Bill exhibits all the qualities we want from our dads/handymen.  He was friendly and approachable, as well as very straightforward and honest.  He explained what was wrong with my AC, and patiently answered all my questions.  As he was almost out the door I asked for advice on what size air filter to get, and he came back in and measured my vents and helped me do some math (apparently 18x18x1 is a really rare size).   <br /> Bill diagnosed that my condenser fan had gone out.  He called in the part and someone drove out here and delivered it to him.  I think he even got me a little upgrade on my capacity!   The whole thing was taken care of in two hours, and the total cost was $282--162 for the part and 120 for labor.   <br /> I've had AC problems for years, and I've had some repair or another done every summer, and I've never been satisfied with either the service or the results.  This is the first summer that I haven't had to complain about my AC.  Thank you Hignell and Bill! <br /> The next time I am faced with any kind of House problem, my first call will be to Hignell.  They are most definitely an honest, trustworthy, caring company.  I don't know if I should write a separate review about this, but I called Hignell when a window broke, and they came out and looked at it and said they couldn't offer any service above what Miller Glass could do, so we would be better off calling them directly.  Another company would have been happy to charge us some extra money to be the middleman, but Hignell wanted me to get the best deal for the best service.   <br /> Finding home-repair providers can be very stressful, what with estimates and reputations.  I'm really glad that I have one place I can go to where all of the service providers, even the outsourced ones, have been vetted by Hignell.  Now I just need them to expand into dentistry and auto repair! <br />"

"Anthony called to tell me he would be arriving late to begin working. He and his associate arrived at the revised time. They dug out a collection pit for the water and began the trenching that needed to go from one side of my home to the edge of my property next to the gutter. Anthony went to another job and returned to check on his helper's progress. He then removed and replaced the outside faucet and then the one in the garage. The next day they returned to put cement over the area they had to jack hammer out for the trench. Unfortunately it began to rain, so the job was finished on the next clear day."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Live Oak, CA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
