"I emailed Dan Robbins via Angie's List, and he responded very quickly.  He came out and gave me a written estimate for removing carpet and installing hardwood flooring in one room of my house.  Dan knew at a glance what kind of wood my existing hardwood floors were made of, and found wood that matched perfectly.  His crew had the carpet out and the floor laid in one day.  Two more days for varnishing  and polishing, and the job was done.  Dan was friendly, professional, and efficient.  I was very happy with his services, and would recommend him to anyone.  <br />"

"Excellent no pressure sales. Gave me multiple options for redoing the flooring in my condo. They were able to work with my schedule since I in the process of moving and currently live out of town. The installation was professional and they left the condo looking like new. Will hire them again to do additional wood flooring in the future."

"1.     Originalinstallation was set up for 5/22/14. <br /> 2.     On 5/21/14 Jeff calls and tells me the product is not in and they will have to push back a week to 5/29/14. <br /> 3.     I ask him if he is sure this is a hard date because I have plumber scheduled to rehook up the gas and he just gave me one day           to cancel and I don?t want to go through that again.  He says he thinks so but he will confirm when it gets closer. I ask what             time are we talking about and he says they usually get there about 9:00. <br /> 4.     On 5/28/14, having heard nothing by 4:55 I call Carol.  She knows nothing but says she will call me back.  I say call me on my        cell.  She says 778-7751.  I say no, you have that wrong, that is my work number.  My cell is 927-0799. <br /> 5.     Carol never calls back.  My wife calls Carol at her home at 6:30. Carol says "something" must have happened and she forgot            to call me back.  She checked the schedule twice and it looks like Alex is scheduled.  She will have Jeff call in the morning. <br /> 6.     My wife tells Carol I will be at work she will need to call me there. <br /> 7.     I get no call at work.  I leave work and come home by 9:00 and find a message on the home phone from Jeff that Alex will <br />         be here at 9:00.  Evidently Carol did not pass the cell phone number on to Jeff and he called the home number where no one           was. <br /> 8.     Nothing more happens till 9:15 when Alex calls and says he has some errands to do and it will be another 10 minutes.                     Around 9:30 Alex shows up.  He has no idea that I would e taking off from work and waiting for him. <br /> 11.  Alex, the installer does an excellent job.  The product quality is good and the floor looks good. <br /> 12.  The customer coordination and care on a small job just is not a priority. <br /> <br />"

"We were working with Home Depot, Lowes and a place called Great Floors (near the mall in Burlington). Then we heard about Gateway Interiors. They have a small shop on Commercial. The people were very friendly and the owners do most of the work. They are detail oriented and very easy to work with. We came down to Home Depot originally because of the price. But our general contractor cautioned us. So we went back to Gateway Interiors to see if they could at least match the pricing of HD. They did! They gave us great carpet and laminate. Plus they were able to handle the common types of scheduling hiccups and other ways life can get in the way. They were excellent! One side note, their website has many issues and we didn't use it at all. I recommend you go in and talk to them. Let them compete for your business! <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Lopez Island, WA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
