"This is probably the best and most responsive service provider I have ever dealt with in Charlottesville.  I have dealt with other plumping issues (leaking washer hookups; burned out hot water heater; septic pumping) and have gone with different providers for each.  Roto-rooter was by far the easiest to get a hold of and fastest to ever make it to my place (and it was after hours!).  We noticed water backing up from the basement floor drain and called the main office at ~6:00pm.  The office picked up right away and contacted a technician and he called me back within 10 mins to give me an ETA as he was stuck in traffic.  Even with the traffic he was at our place and looking at the problem by 6:45pm!  I was floored!  I've never had such fast service!  
Buzz, the technician, was super helpful and personable.  He explained what he was going to do and his problem solving process and the different outcomes that were possible.  He also provided approximate cost estimates for the different scenarios that could be causing our problem.  It was very clear and informative, I feel much better prepared for the next time we have problems.
That first night Buzz attempted to find the clog with a camera (which my 5yo son got a total kick out of), but it made it all the way to the tank without finding it.  Which meant he was going to have to dig up the access hatch to look inside the tank.  Unfortunately, it was dark by then so he marked it off and had to come back the next day.  He felt so bad about not being able to fix the problem that night and was super apologetic.  He was just the friendliest guy.
Anyways, the next day Buzz dug up the hatch and pulled out a big old ball of roots that was blocking up the drain!  Fixed!  Maybe it was because he did such a great job explaining all the potential costs that when he rung up the final price we were delighted that it was so low!  Only 300 and change - we were really expecting about $600+ for the work he did.  I feel that Buzz gave us a really good deal - I think because he felt so bad about not being able to help us that first night.  :)  A+ for Buzz.

John provided an in-depth home inspection of my plumbing and educated me on the importance of venting my sinks to avoid moisture buildup, mold, corrosion, and bad odors. They assessed the issue and cleared what they could, helped us to be able to still use the pipe until they could come out and permanently fix the issue, which was done first thing Monday morning. They also made sure we were not taken advantage of when it came to the repairs, due to the break in the line not being our responsibility, because it was at the main hook up for our sewer supply from our water company. "We have a long history with VPS, so Robert was a natural to do this job for us. The work involved several visits over the course of a month or more in coordination with the general contractor who was doing the renovation work and electricians. The work was done to a very high quality standard, as Robert knows his business well and has very high standards. He's also very friendly and a great communicator - when you can reach him. The difficulty in working with VPS is that they are so busy that telephone calls, texts and emails often don't get returned for days, and there were several occasions when VPS didn't show up when they were scheduled to, with no advance notice. This was incredibly frustrating to us and to the general and subs who have to stop work or redirect their efforts when their daily plan, which depended on plumbing work having been done beforehand, was disrupted - often for days at a time. We have been willing so far to chalk this issue up to natural growth pains of a small business, but the frustration level was such that it's not certain we will use VPS again; certainly not without a clear understanding ahead of time as to our expectations regarding communication and scheduling. VPS is best when not needed urgently and for one-visit projects.

Robert and his crew were quick and did quality work on ripping out the old Qwest pipe and pulling in all PEX. They installed a new sink for us also which was a nice touch. Immediately after the replumbing was complete the (30) year old hot water heater started to leak, Robert and crew showed up same day and had a new water heater swapped out in record time.
