"Deck Guardian (DG) removed my old 600+ square-foot two-level deck and in its place constructed a new one using a similar layout. DG hauled away the old materials. I am completely satisfied with my new deck, which surpassed my expectation. I would rehire them for similar work and highly recommend DG to others. My only change is that I would require notice from DG before DG placed materials or a dumpster in my driveway. I was trapped in my garage for a day until DG made a path for me. This was a minor annoyance. During the sales process, a salesperson made stylistic recommendations, such as light-colored floorboards outlined with a darker color, which I accepted. He provided a detailed contract with pricing. Before the start of construction, I settled on a payment schedule for the contract. DG handled the permit process with my township. To begin the work, DG prepared a new blueprint. The upper surfaces of the deck were Trex materials and metal railings supported by a lumber base. I expect that this more expensive choice of surface materials will be maintenance-free. During the work, I could call or send email to the project manager and talk with him immediately or receive a call-back the same day. The two men who built the deck were meticulous and perfectionists. They courteously answered all my questions during construction. DG completed the deck within the time frame set out in the contract. They cleaned up all materials after they finished with construction."

"I've hired Jim and his team for several projects in the past year, including the reconstruction of an outdoor porch; installing a bathroom fan and running its venting to the outside; fixing up rotten boards and checking the integrity of a second floor porch; and replacing the ceiling, flooring, a window, and areas of the walls in an area of my house that I’m hoping to eventually rent out as a separate unit. The thought hadn't even occurred to me until Jim’s call, and I appreciated that he took the time, even outside of normal working hours, to communicate with me and make that recommendation, since I was able to avoid any kind of burst pipes or other issues. I highly recommend Jim, OHI, and his entire team (again, a shout out to both Juan and Shorty, who were always friendly, helpful, and left the house cleaned after each project). He’s an experienced and knowledgable contractor who can quickly assess problems and offer solutions, and I value and appreciate the work he’s done on my property."

"I had put this project off way too long because I was dreading dealing with more shady, sketchy contractors. Living in a house that's 84 years old, I've had more than my share of those! I was so pleasantly surprised and happy when I found Carl's! Everyone was very professional, courteous and punctual, and the workmanship was impeccable. Craig was the project manage and very easy to work with. He understood my concerns about being without handrails on the newly installed masonry stairs for even one day and arranged to have his crew start their part the day after the stairs were completed. He even stopped by a couple of times while the mason was working to see how it was going. Once his crew got started, they worked very fast and efficiently and left my property spotless when they were done. I could have gone cheaper but I wouldn't have had the great experience or the beautiful front porch I got from Carl's."

"The owner, Leon, really oversaw the job. He came by to check with his employees several times during the day every day. The work performed was real old fashioned European craftsmanship. The skirt on the deck is so nice and even has a door so we can use underneath the deck for storage. The guys always showed up early and went right to work and stayed until 5pm (even in drizzly days) so our deck was finished quickly. The workers also took everything off the old deck and put it back when finished! Our deck is absolutely gorgeous!"
