"We hired Custom Home Solutions to gut and completely remodel our master bathroom, put in new flooring and paint the master bedroom, install a door in between the bedroom and bathroom (not just an opening!), eliminate a claustrophobic water closet, and to upgrade the other 2 bathrooms as well, plus some other cosmetic things around the house. <br />   <br /> Unlike several other contractors we talked to,  Mike expected to and did obtain a local work permit, and had the job inspected ? important issues to us.  His pricing for the project was fair. <br /> Mike always listened to us, ensuring that results were exactly as we'd anticipated.  He quickly resolved the few problems that came up during the course of the job.  When the fabricator went to pick up the granite we?d put on hold at the large tile and granite company at the southwest corner of  Orange Grove and Thornydale/River Rd, he discovered that the company had sold it to someone else!  Mike  went above and beyond duty for his wildly unhappy client, and accompanied me to different yards to locate another piece of granite! <br /> My husband and I lived in the house during the entire process. Mike did everything he could to ensure our comfort, including putting a zippered plastic door between the hallway leading to the bedroom and the rest of the house, which cut down on the amount of circulating dust - and kept our cats safely out of the work zone.  The guest bathroom was left pretty much intact until after the master bath was finished, so we always had a bathroom to use.  Mike and his main helper Carlos, as well as all the sub-contractors he used were all top-notch professionals, pleasant and comfortable to have in the house with us.  Work areas were always cleaned up beautifully before people left for the day. <br /> I?m a bit of a control freak, and Mike seemed perfectly at ease consulting with me every step of the way, which I greatly <br /> appreciated.  Emails were always responded to quickly, and I could reach him by phone if necessary.  He always sent me an email  the evening before, to let us know at what time workers would arrive in the morning. <br /> The work was done to our complete satisfaction and in a timely manner.  The results are beautiful - even beyond our hopes and expectations!   And - because structural issues came up that prevented moving the toilet to a new location in the master bath, the project actually came in under budget! <br /> I cannot say enough good things about Mike and his company and the job they did for us; I highly recommend Custom Home Solutions without hesitation to anyone planning to remodel.  Should we ever decide to do more work on the house, this will be the company we?ll contact. <br />   <br />   <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Kathy N, the engineer/construction supervisor and her wonderful team helped us understand options for wall movements, door placements and changes necessary in structural adjustments.  Kathy L the designer was very patient as she walked us through options of style (Mediterranean, traditional, modern, etc.) and small design issues (faux painting, appliance matching, cabinet wood and pulls, etc).   <br /> Work included moving one wall and changing one entry door into the kitchen area.  cabinets were all designed from scratch with an excellent functional work area that flows well today after 4 years.  The two types and color of granite are perfect compliments and add so much to the kitchen look and functionality.  We found all the workmen to be conscientious, skilled and open to questions and ideas.  What few little things went not according to plan i.e. termites found on removal of old cabinets or hole punctured in adjoining bathroom wall, were all dealt with quickly and efficiently by Nick, the onsite foreman.  Not only were they top notch in all ways, but we brought them back a year later to do a backyard outdoor kitchen, again with the same level of expertise.   <br /> Perhaps the best example of ultimate service occurred 2 years after completing the back yard BBQ/outdoor kitchen, when a piece of the slate behind the BBQ collapsed in after a heavy rain storm.  Nick was on the spot within a short period of time and not only had it repaired and reinforced, but had his crew completely rebuff the entire slate area even fixing some chips we had put in it.  What a surprise to come home and find them rebuffing and resealing the slate.   <br /> <br /> Over all a pleasant experience remodeling (I used to think that was an oxymoron) with an excellent team, dedicated professionals at about the same price or slightly higher than other bids we had but so much more value than we anticipated."

"These guys are awesome! They came out within 45 minutes of my plumber calling them, fully ready to go. I was a wreck, and Justin and Alfonso were able to get equipment in place, to stop the water from damaging my home more. They were here for 3 days, and then I got a call from Chad and Garrett for repairs. We were able to get new floors at a great price, considering we were able to upgrade for the same cost. I matched all my floors throughout the house, and this turned out to be the best horrific experience ever. Chad knew his stuff about the new flooring, and really went the extra mile to make sure I was happy. I will definitely hire them again to do some home remodel work planned in the future."

"We needed a contractor to build an addition on our house for my wife’s aging mother. La Casita Development’s bid was competitive, and they were able to start almost immediately. They completed our mother-in-law suite on time and on budget. Carl and his crew were very easy to work with. We are very happy with the results and would highly recommend La Casita Development."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Tucson, AZ

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
