"My job was not big enough for most HVAC companies to even respond. I purchased and installed a new condenser fan motor for our A/C unit myself and needed a professional to finish the wiring. I cannot say enough good things about Gus. He was the second to call and was onsite the next morning as promised. He immediately recognized we had been sold the wrong capacitor which was the first of many displays of his technical competence. Gus is both professional and personable and took the time to explain what he was doing and why. We were so impressed that we had him return the following day for additional maintenance activities on our home A/C unit."

"I called on a Monday morning after the fridge began misbehaving over the weekend.  I desperately needed someone to come by the same day, since my frozen food had already defrosted and I was rapidly losing the rest of the food in the fridge.  My phone call was answered right away by the service coordinator, who was very friendly.  She said she would contact their technician, got my information, and said she would call right back.  She returned my call within five minutes, and said that luckily Joel was in my neighborhood and could come by immediately.  The service coordinator also made sure I understood the service charges before Joel arrived, which I appreciated.  The charge is $59 to come and look at the appliance, which is credited toward the cost of labor if any labor is required.  Joel arrived within ten minutes.  He was able to diagnose the problem with the fridge immediately (something to do with the compressor attempting to run on overload) and had the part to fix it.  He clearly told me my options in terms of fixing the fridge, including how much they would cost and the likelihood of success.  I really appreciated that he was direct and up-front about what my options were, rather than trying to sell me on the most expensive option.  Once I made my decision, he was able to install the part within about ten minutes.  Joel also gave me some advice about how to avoid similar problems in the future.  Overall, I was extremely pleased with Joel Norris Appliance Repair, and I would highly recommend this business to others.

"Technician came to the house and analyzed the problem. It was determined that the cost of repair was over the allowable Choice Home Warranty limit and it should be replaced. Choice Home Warranty issued their replacement cost. This cost was unacceptable and I challenged their figure. After some negotiation I was offered an increased settlement amount. I still balked at their offer but I was told to take it or repair my old microwave. I finally accepted their amount, even though it is still well below what it will cost me to replace the unit. I might add that the existing microwave has the convection feature and I want to replace with same features. The cost that I will receive also does not include any removal, disposal or installation costs. At this time I am debating whether I will continue with Choice Home Warranty or consider other options."

"It's insurance for all appliances and also they came her for my stove. I pay them month to month.  I'm happy with them. Price is good. We don't pay, I fix it and they, everything is paid for. I don't have to pay anything. If my refrigerator goes bye bye they will replace it for free. They are very professional. We have had them for year. They also came here for my stove because something when wrong with the door, the oven door. I have a commercial oven and he door just won't shut so something when wrong with it, and they fixed it. I pay them month to month. I'm happy with them. Price is good. We don't pay, I fix it and they, everything is paid for. I don't have to pay anything. I don't have to pay anything. If my refrigerator goes bye bye, they will replace it for free. They are very professional. We have had them for years. We used them at our other house also. I think it was the air conditioner that went out. They replaced it, the whole thing. They were recommended to us by somebody who's been with them for years. And, like thank god because a year later the damn air conditioner went out. So we were able to use it."

FAQs for appliance (microwave oven) installation and replacement projects in Mcdonald, PA

A pro can finish the job in one to three hours. Countertop models are the quickest, but built-in, drawer, and over-the-range units take longer because the installer may need to run a new outlet, modify cabinets, or add venting. Any add-ons can push the timeline closer to the three-hour mark. Hiring a licensed installer ensures the wiring is safe and the appliance operates at peak performance.

Because an over-the-range microwave doubles as a range hood, it needs proper venting. You can opt for a recirculating model that filters and recirculates air back into the kitchen, or a ducted unit that exhausts outdoors. Are you unsure which route suits your cooking style? Ask your installer for guidance before making a purchase.

Only microwaves labeled “over-the-range” have the built-in venting and lighting that’s necessary for safe, code-compliant use above a stove. Countertop models don’t have those safeguards. Before you swipe your card, have a licensed microwave installer confirm you’re choosing the right unit for the space and ensure compliance with local codes.

It’s best not to install a countertop microwave in your cabinets. Countertop models aren’t designed for use in an enclosed cabinet, and blocking those vents can trap moisture or even create a fire hazard. A built-in or drawer microwave is designed for tight spaces. Run your plans by an installer to make sure you’re buying the right style for the spot.

You don’t need an electrician if the outlet already meets the microwave’s power needs and sits in the right spot. In that case, you’re good to go ahead with the installation. If the outlet is undersized, outdated, or too far away, hire a licensed electrician to install a new one and ensure everything is code-compliant.

With routine care, most microwaves last between five and 10 years. To help them reach their maximum lifespan, wipe up spills immediately, wash the grease filter periodically, avoid using metal dishware, and close the door gently. Those simple habits reduce malfunctions and keep the appliance running smoothly for the long haul.
