"I had a small job and trouble finding professional help for my small job replacing the shingles on the roof of my wood garden shed -- 12x6 size. Once I removed the tools inside to prepare for their work, I realized I also needed the floor replaced. They completed both jobs within a few hours; they cleaned up afterwards, I am now prepared for keeping my lawnmower and other tools dry and ready for next season. They were a pleasure to work with. Their price was fair."

"Started with a depressing and ugly attic bathroom and finished with an ipdated modern and beautiful bathroom.   Lots of assistance as I struggled to find the right lights, tiles. fixtures and kept trying to help me make the right choices.  It's a real skill when a contractor can stop and listen to the client and Pawel does just that.

"Id like to take a minute to explain our experience with Regency Garages. When we first decided we wanted to build a garage, we met with several companies before contacting Regency. The experience with these companies was less than desirable. It felt like they wanted to build only a simple box style garage and really did a horrible job explaining the process and options. When Terry from Regency came out to meet with us, we knew right away this was the company we had been looking for. She did a great job walking us through sizes, designs, process, and pricing. We learned so much from that fist visit and felt very comfortable dealing with her. We then began the process and this is where Regency really shines. As you can imagine, questions can arise. There was not a phone call or e-mail that Regency did not get back to me quickly on. Their communication is second to none. The concrete and build process was exceptional. Regency handled all permits and we passed all inspections easily. This is a company you should feel comfortable dealing with. I would be more than happy to discuss our experience further with any one interested. Thank you Regency for a job well done. I finally have the garage I always wanted. And it looks like my son and his friend have also turned the 2nd floor into a clubhouse (see pics). Many thanks!"

"Overall, we had a very positive experience and we are extremely satisfied with the work done by Fogarty Home Improvement. The project took about 5 months to complete and throughout the duration, it was very comforting to know that this unique project was in John’s very capable hands. John handled everything, start to finish, as if he’s done it a thousand times.
John always promptly replied to our inquiries (made via emails, phone calls and text). Most importantly, he completed the project on budget and on time. He was very accommodating to our decisions to add or change things along the way. We never felt pressured to make a quick decision, and he offered some great ideas which we had not previously considered.
We interviewed a several General Contractors before selecting Fogarty Home Improvement and have never once doubted that we made the right choice. If we ever have other home improvement projects, we will certainly go right back to John. We've been in this home for over 15 years and have had many contractors come through to work on various things. John by far has been the best among them all. As family and friends come by and see our lovely new “old” home, we are quick to let them know about Fogarty Home Improvement.

"This is my second project with Fil and Thor Build. The idea to construct a mezzanine was something that I had envisioned when I first saw my condo. I showed Fil my ideas on paper along with photos of how I wanted everything to look. Fil ran with it and brought it to fruition. Everything turned out even better than how I had envisioned. During the project, I requested some modifications which Fil gladly accommodated; he even created a custom door for me that is absolutely stunning - the quality work of artisans! To top it all off, this project was completed while I was 600 miles away. I had to rely strictly on photos and good communication. I had tons of questions during the construction phase and I'm sure I must've drove Fil crazy at times. However he was always professional and answered all of my questions and addressed any concerns that I had. I can't say enough about Thor Build, they are my go-to contractor and I am so fortunate to have found them."

FAQs for shed, barn or playhouse building service projects in Melrose Park, IL

Most sheds larger than six feet by eight feet require a foundation to remain level and dry. A compact tool shed might get by without one, but anything heavier should sit on at least a 4-inch-thick stone-and-gravel pad that extends two feet past the walls. The gravel protects wood skids and promotes drainage. If you want maximum stability—and your budget allows—a poured concrete slab is the strongest option.

Your ideal shed size hinges on purpose. A common 10-by-12-foot kit gives you 120 square feet—plenty for lawn tools and bikes. Need just a spot for a mower and a few rakes? A compact 4-by-7-foot model should work. If you’re envisioning a workshop or hobby room, look at 12-by-16 feet or larger.

A good rule is to raise the shed floor four to six inches above the surrounding soil. That clearance encourages water to drain away instead of pooling beneath the structure. The simple step is especially important for wood floors and skids, helping deter rot, mold, and insect damage while extending the life of your new outbuilding.

Choose the route that fits your goals. Prefab sheds arrive in standard layouts and go up fast—perfect for basic storage on a tight timeline. Custom builds cost more and take longer, but let you add windows, wiring, plumbing, and unique finishes. Balance budget, features, and timeframe before deciding which type of shed is best for your needs.
