"I'm happy with the installation of radon equipment in my basement. Mike, the owner, provided a fair quote and was professional when working with me. Jay, the installer, was patient and courteous when answering my questions. He is very knowledgeable. I received the radon test performed after the installation. The results were better than I expected. I would encourage anyone needing radon mitigation to talk to Radon Environmental Inc. I'm glad I did."

"I did not deal with Karen directly—our home inspector coordinated the radon test both times. (We had two homes inspected.) But the results were returned quickly and, in the case where the home had high radon levels, a detailed proposal for a radon mitigation system was also provided. I was very pleased in both cases. Knowing what I know now, next time I would schedule a radon test on my own to save a little money. The additional amount we paid to the home inspector for a radon test was higher than the cost of the radon test would've been had I booked directly with Pure Air."

"I called and spoke with Dan and he came that same day and examined what we thought was asbestos. He was sure it was, but I decided to go ahead and have the analysis completed. I went ahead and had him schedule the remove which was the same week. <br /> They did a fantastic job and everyone was very professional and left the area clean! After a string of not so great (okay pretty bad) contractors, I joined Angie's list and finding companies like Air Co. definately makes the membership more than worth while. Thank you Air Co! <br />"

"Louis inspected a home we are planning to purchase. He was wonderful. He spent time answering all our questions and performed a very thorough inspection of the home. He also suggested that we check into the septic system records from the county, which was a great idea. We uncovered some issues that might impact the purchase of the home. We would never have thought of this had he not suggested it. He was very patient with our questions, even though it threatened to make him late. He was very good about explaining his results. I would STRONGLY recommend Louis and, if I ever need an inspection again, New Start will be my first call."

"I would not use them again. They kept coming out to fix the thing. But there was always something left undone. They didn't consult us before they installed the pipe. It was a space we were using for a closet. It leaked. It was not effective. So, they installed another one. It leaked. They left a knife in our basement. We have young children. They left the sump unplugged in the basement."

"No idea where to begin with how thorough and meticulous Troy was on both home inspections he did for me. He didn’t miss a thing and gave me a very detailed report on how everything needed to be fixed the right way and small things that I would want to pay attention to on my house long term. I highly recommend this company and they also preformed 2 radon tests for me and he did an excellent job helping get mitigation systems installed on both properties for safety."

"Bryon was a little late getting there, but he called ahead to let us know he had been delayed. He got right to work, inviting me to follow along & ask any questions I had along the way. He even invited me to climb the ladder to see the furnace, which is in the attic."

"Steve S. was our inspector. We got the full home, radon and pest inspection. The price was comparable to others we received quotes from.  Steve arrived on time the day of the inspection and spent almost 3 full hours inspecting this 1800sq/ft home. He was very nice, thorough and informative. He gave us tips on things to look out for and information about the general maintenance items of the house. He also checked over the security system installed in the house -- as a free extra with the inspection.  We received the very long and thorough report the next day and used it to request repairs from the seller. Once the repairs were complete we had Steve back out for a quick re-inspection. Everything checked out great and we ended up closing on the house last week. We would definitely recommend SHI and would use them again ourselves!"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Middletown, IN

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
