"The crew came to the house and modified their way of working to accommodate the tight work space. They were friendly and went above what they had to do by saving my flowers out of my flower bed before they began digging out the space. They answered my questions and explained how things were going. The company owner often checked in by phone and in person to communicate with me regarding the job."

"Amazing work! Todd, owner of Alone Eagle Remodeling, works with you from start to finish. From the initial meeting, he provided great insight on our bathroom remodeling job and gave us different ideas and options. He explains the project in detail, so you know exactly what you are getting and when it will be finished. During the month-long job, Todd was punctual and communicated his progress. You can see the care that he puts into his work. He keeps the work space and your home clean. We are very happy with our bathroom and would recommend Todd to anyone."

"Fred and company were great to work with. The project was able to be started early. Fred was knowledgeable and worked with us to pick harmonious tile and grout combinations. The store has a very good selection of tile, carpet, and vinyl. He worked with us to keep the budget reasonable and let us do the rough demolition work to save some money. Many of the services are local contractors that he subcontracted to handle the electric and plumbing etc. We had other renovation contractors who had quoted using one of the same electricians with a higher hourly mark up, so Fred's price was decent. <br /> We were happy at the pace the work proceeded at, and the workers were mostly punctual and polite. The quality of craftsmanship of the entire job was top notch. There was not a lot of excess dirt or clutter overall. Our main bedroom was also going to be renovated, so they used it for the cutting/tool room. The tile work is great, all the cuts are nice, the tile pattern is great. We did some painting ourselves again to save money on the project, and there was enough time to fit in painting around other laborers coming in. Fred stopped over several times during the work and checked in on the progress. <br /> There was a slight miscommunication regarding our faucet and sink, so the correct replacement took about 2 weeks to arrive. Because we were not yet using that bathroom, it was not a problem for us to wait for the new parts. Communication over phone or email was timely. <br /> Overall we are extremely pleased with JR's. All the guys are great to work with, the process was smooth, everyone stayed flexible with minor issues and timetables, and I feel we paid an appropriate amount for the job. <br />"

"It was excellent.  It was not their fault but I cancelled the factory because two of them were broken so I had to wave them off and I got one that was shipped in and when the work was done it was excellent.  That is why I had to call them back because they have a guarantee on their products and my sliding glass door, the rubber around it is loose and air is coming through.  They came back to make sure everything was done right.  The cost was through my home owners.    <br /> <br /> Their price was equal to the quality."

"Dave was responsive from the start. He promptly responded to my calls and answered my questions. Provided great advice regarding shingle selection. <br /> Typically Dave performs the work alongside his team but an injury prevented him from going on the roof. Fortunately he has a strong, knowledgable team. The men arrived on time, were friendly and cleaned up after themselves. They worked hard and we are 100% pleased with the end result. <br /> I highly recommend Sand D. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Mifflintown, PA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
