"I just wanted to give a big thank you to John Cisna for working with us, answered all our questions and informing us of all the things we needed to know about the process of getting a replacement roof and most especially the price was great and reasonable. The installation went smoothly, George and his team came out early, cleaned up everything and finished it the next day. They were very efficient and did a great job on our new roof. Definitely, I will refer Walter Brown to my friends and family."

"They took all all to do the work and after they left and I looked at the job they did it was sloppy at best.I requested they come back and redo some of their sloppy and careless work, However the repair of the water damage was good."

"Cleaned gutters on two story colonial and also gutters on addition and two car garage.  Several gutters were badly in need of cleaning/unclogging.  Also, Vince adjusted several downspouts, added support brackets, and repaired a few supports on gutters.  We are very pleased with the work."

"We love the finished product - the floors are gorgeous! And we can't even tell which boards are old and which are the new ones added where necessary. The banister and new trim also are fantastic. We had one issue with a threshold we didn't like and they fixed it to our satisfaction right away. Great team and great work. We would (and will) work with Eduard's Wood Floors again. Very reasonably priced compared to other bids we received."

"Mr. Timothy showed up with his team and got right to work. His is a family business, his father taught him, and you get that old-fashioned small private business treatment complete with affordable price. Special mention goes out to Steve who paid great attention to detail, getting everything just right, was extremely knowledgeable and generous in sharing what he knew (gave me step-by-step instructions on how to stain and paint the railings, a project I’m determined to do myself). We are so thrilled with both stairway and basement drywall and can't stop admiring them. Thank you so much, Mr. Timothy and crew! With confidence I highly recommend you and your team for all home repair and improvement!"

"

I called his company to give me an estimate on replacing a front portico and after receiving his estimate and a couple more I realized I needed to put some more money aside. While he was there I asked if he could replaced my 32 year old deck boards and stairs.

I got an estimate for the deck which was more than reasonable and signed the contract.  Within two weeks his crew was at my house and finished the job in one day.  I asked if they could stain the deck and railings and he said it would be no problem. A couple of weeks later my deck was stained and again it was done in a day.  The deck staining was $560 extra but the old deck looks like new.

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Monkton, MD

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
