"Scott and company were easy to deal with and did everything they said they would do. I had them sister some joists, finish  rooms in the basement, add lighting and a wet bar. They also put down some tile and put in a bigger service panel. Permits were pulled and inspections completed. I would recommend adding Miller Building to your list of potential service providers <br>"

"From start to finish I could not be happier.   I had an idea (a rough idea) of what I wanted to do.    Dan sat with me (listened with patience) and helped me work through the details of my project, he talked to me about what was important and what was not... after he helped me design the building and details that went along with it.    Along the way he worked with me to make adjustments to the design, as well as offered ideas and solutions to reduce my cost (he saved me about 15%).   There were things I didn't think about when I put my plans in place, Dan communicated with me along the way allowing me to think through the changes as well as the pros/cons of doing so.   There were changes we made along the way that make a lot of sense now that the building is complete.   Amazing work!!! <br /> To find a builder who can complete the work start to finish, stay true to his commitments, and more importantly listen to you is not easy to find.   Dan fits this mold. <br /> I have worked with at least 10 builders in the last 20 years...   this is the first review I have written.   The reason I am writing this review is Dan did an awesome job!    From start to finish communication was great, the work was awesome, and the price was right.    With 100% confidence I would recommend Dan and Patriot Builders to take on a small project to building a high end 6,000 sq foot home.   I am attaching my personal cell phone if you would like to personally talk to me - Frank (913) 461-7217  I will be more then happy to show you the work he did. <br /> Dan, thank you!   Its nice to work with folks who get stuff done! <br />"

"When my wife and I first decided to completely remodel our home several years ago, we planned to interview three architects. Michael was the first on our schedule, and as soon as he left our house, I told my wife there was no need to interview anyone else, so we cancelled the other two interviews. Michael’s presentation was not only professional, but also extremely customer-oriented, and his sincere desire to make our dreams come true was obvious within the first five minutes of our meeting, even though we had never undertaken anything of this scope before. I knew immediately that we could do no better than Architectural Resource, and we never regretted choosing Michael’s team to make our dreams come true. His approach is unsurpassed as he takes great care to understand what his customers want and then makes it his highest priority to achieve the goals along every step of the process. His adherence to selection of a builder early in the process as a “partner” (and not an afterthought) is also instrumental in the overall success of his projects. Three years after our remodel, we have decided to undertake a smaller remodel to our home, and there was never a question of working with anyone other than Michael again to continue our dream. His enthusiasm and understanding of our aesthetics and idiosyncrasies are very apparent, and we get the feeling that he treats our project as if we are family. He is absolutely amazing !!"

"Robert and his son along with 2 employees were nothing less than wonderful! ?Very professional, fast and clean! Robert Johnson Construction came highly recommended to my grandparents by friends theirs that also were in need of some handicap?accessibility. ?My grandparents are private people and were very apprehensive about having this type of work done. ?They were very afraid that their home would look institutional. ?Robert was very patient and spent a lot of time explaining and showing pictures to my grandparents, which we all very much appreciated. They were surprised by how many options they had. ?They are thrilled with the looks and functionality of all of it. They have had many compliments on the bathroom and wished they had called Bob years earlier. ? This is how found Robert Johnson construction. ?My experience was much the same as my grandparents. ?The storage building is perfect. ?It was built much faster than expected. ?At the end of everyday the yard and area were cleaned and left as if no mess was there to start with. ?The crew was very professional and friendly. Sometimes Bob has a bit of a wait list but he will get you in and is well worth the wait. We have had much different experiences with other contractors in the past. ?Some did decent work but were so late, took forever and couldn't control their mouths. ?Others work had to be repaired or completely re done."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Moran, MI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
