"Gil seems to remember bidding our roof a couple of years ago (which is entirely possible since we were considering solar, and knew we would probably need to repair or replace the roof then... I honestly do not remember that, but my wife may have dealt with him while I was out of town on business... I usually file all work whether contracted, or just proposed/bid, but I didn't take the time to dig through old files for it.) 
The project was bid by a number of roofers... I had one say that the old roof could be coated, I had at least 2 others that do coating, bid it as well and they said the old roof was too worn and had to be replaced.  I had narrowed it down to 2 companies, and honestly decided on GM Pacific Pro because of the great Angie's list reputation.  
Gil and his guys lived up to that reputation.  
I knew we had problems even before Gil's foot went through one of the rotted roof boards while he and I walked the entire roof surface after the old roof had been stripped off (he seemed a bit surprised that I wanted to do that with him, but didn't skip a beat saying "let's go!").  The cost of the job ended up a few thousand higher than bid, but all had been discussed and approved ahead of time as I was pointing out some of the rot that we could see during the bid process.  His price was fair for the bid of the new roof materials and work, including tearing off of the old roof; and the unknown issues were discussed and priced (per foot repair) in the original bid... the unknown was how much underlying work had to be done, and the amount did not shock or surprise me.  I'm glad I went with Gil in that, had I chosen one of the other bids I considered competitive, they suggested I would be OK putting a 2nd roof on top of the old to save money, but I don't think would have been smart knowing now how much repair we needed.
We haven't had a first rain yet, but all seems excellent currently.

"I pay a monthly fee to CHW for insurance against equipment failure. Over a month ago CHW sent a repair technician to fix both of my garage doors, the technician made an adjustment on one door and chanced the opener on the other. A week or so ago the second door failed to open. Yes, my door opener is old, but the Warrantee says, if it can’t be fixed it will be replaced. CHW paid the tech $100 and said the rest $200 is on me. Please tell me why I should stay with CHW if I have to pay 2/3rds of the cost to replace the door opener? On a separate issue: Granted I accepted CHW’s offer of a Lowe’s card to replace my dishwasher, because I was unaware of how much dishwashers sell for, it cost me an additional 300. Again, please give me a reason for staying with CHW"
