"Reuben and his crew were wonderful. We had them install the metal siding, shingle roofing and metal roofing on our home (which is new construction). They were prompt, friendly, professional, and provided excellent quality work. We will be using them again this summer to do work on our dock at Lake Mattoon. A big THANK YOU to everyone at Marvon Construction!"

"Bob came in and looked at the job(s) and gave his opinion about what to do in the bathroom. He tore out all the old stuff and completely remodeled my bathroom and added shelves for storage. Wired in better lighting and replanned the tub. Put in the flooring. Painted walls and ceiling. Bob was more than fair in his pricing, does the job quickly. He also cleans up afterwards. I have since had uncle Bob in my house to do other jobs for me. He is my go to guy for home repairs and remodels."

"They installed 5 plates against the wall and attached them to the other side of the driveway where they drilled down. It pulled the wall back up and all is secure and lifetime warranty that is transferable. Happy with results."

"Completed. I was told I should check with a heating and cooling business to make sure the fireplace was to code. It turned out that I should not use the fireplace. Floor of fireplace could crumble after a few fires! So glad I took the suggestion!"

"<p>Jamey was upfront about what needed to be done.  He made suggestions and listened to what we wanted him to do. He was punctual and communicated when he would arrive and contacted us if there was a change. He is friendly, flexible and cleans up the work area. He may charge a little more that some but you get what you pay for as the quality of work is excellent.  He makes sure that the work is complete and guarantees his work.</p> <br />"

"Pretty good work overall--we are happy with the new appearance of our basement wall + new window. The painting job they did was good. We also paid extra to have them install new silver replacement doorknobs throughout the house (20 total doors!). This was awkward--they did not bring enough to finish the work even over a couple of days, so had to come back, bring more doorknobs, etc. and it took a full week to have the total doorknobs installed. Some of the doorknobs' areas on the doors were left dirty/dinged-up (so we weren't too happy about that) so will definitely have to do some touch-up paint on some of the doors. In addition, the workers left occasional cigarette butts out in the yard and our driveway which didn't go over well with us. We're in the process of considering to have this company maybe do some additional work for us (but are getting a couple of other competitive bids from other companies) as will likely have at least $2,000 more in work done."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Muncie, IL

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
