"I interviewed sales people from three different window companies who represented three different window manufacturers. The Northwest sales person was the only one that brought a "sample kit" to demonstrate the window construction and features. After the interviews I visited the three local showrooms to see some actual window installations and to have the sales people show me more  details. Each of the window companies had their own shop adjacent to their showrooms, as well their own trucks and crews. <br />    The estimates were fairly close to one another, but I decided on the Northwest as the installer and chose the Anlin windows they were promoting because I liked the window features (construction and materials). I also preferred their screens, which had metal "pulls" instead of the typical flimsy rubber "tabs" that most screens have (that is, when they are new!). It's a small detail, but removing screens and re-seating them is one of the things you have to do when you clean windows. <br />    After signing the contract, a different Northwest representative came to my place and took precise measurements and subsequently placed the order with the Anlin manufacturer (www.anlin.com). After the windows arrived at Northwest, they scheduled the installation. <br />    The installation crew arrived on time and the first thing they did was to walk through my townhouse and double-check to make sure they had the correct windows and equipment before they started work. One of the windows had to be re-ordered because the manufacturer had made a mistake, but Northwest was able to get it expedited and the replacement window arrived within a week. <br />    I left the townhouse for part of the time that the crew was working because I didn't want to be around all the noise and activity. But from what I did observe, the crew was very precise and careful about removing the old windows and installing the new ones. They kept me apprised of their progress during the day and discussed with me how they could deal with some construction issues that were not visible until they removed old paneling. And each day they cleaned up the interior and exterior before they left. <br />    The removal and installation job took three days total, and then they came back a forth day for a few hours to complete some detail work (additional caulking, removing labels, cleaning windows, etc.). <br />    Northwest installed new window trim on the exterior (it was required by the Homeowners Association), but I had to arrange for the trim to be painted. <br />    Overall, I am very satisfied with the appearance of the  finished job (interior and exterior), and it's great to have windows and doors that open and close smoothly again instead of the 40-yr old windows that were sticking all the time. And when I close the windows, it is so quiet that I either don't hear or am not bothered by a lot of the typical city noises anymore (such as fire engines, planes, and leaf blowers). <br />"
