"Overall, Tom was personable, professional, and he got the job done fairly easily. I trusted his judgment in what kind of mounting hardware to use into the wall -- which was probably the one issue I had with how things went. Mr Handyman only provides their labor; the customer needs to provide ALL materials, which initially was challenging because the guy that I spoke to on the phone said that I had to wait until their guy arrived to even know what parts to get! He said the handyman would tell me what to get, and I'd need to go to the store -- while the guy is at my house -- and get the mounting hardware! (As a side note ... who would leave their house with someone they don't know inside it?). But then when I protested on the phone, he suggested I go to Home Depot and ask them, and get what they suggested (which made me wonder ... I'm hiring them for THEIR knowledge, right??). So my solution, which was the least painful in my mind, was to go to the hardware store and buy multiple different mounting options, and have them available for their guy to choose from (after which, I'll take the ones he didn't use back to the store). The only other point was the price, which, to explain ... Mr Handyman is a bit on the high side, because they charge for a full hour in addition to their service fee, even though Tom was only actually working at my house for about 30-40mins."

Second, 8 weeks was NOT an awful wait for a May order. Any construction firm with no backlog, might not have healthy orders."

"Based on their high rating on Angie's List, United was one of three contractors we requested a quote from. Within a couple of days Tom met us for a walk through. He offered sound advice on some of our ideas which was very helpful. We had his proposal a week after we gave them the architect's prints. The proposal was very detailed and specific. United responded quickly to our questions and made adjustments to their proposal as requested. We wanted to use some specific contractors to do the electrical and HVAC and United was very accommodating. (FYI, one of the other businesses we contacted for a quote did a walk through and never gave us a proposal, the job was too big for them. The other business gave us a proposal but it was vague and when we questioned them, we found that there were many things we needed that weren't included in the proposal.) We wanted to keep the original wood floors where possible and have them repaired adding new where required so that the entire main floor matched. They installed cabinets and appliances, tore out windows and rebricked the exterior. They totally remade the entire main floor. They estimated the job would take 4-5 months. Based on the experience of friends and family. we were expecting that it would take twice their estimate so we were ecstatic when they finished in just under 6 months. We recommend United to anyone we talk to that is looking for a contractor. You know that we love their work - we're now having them start on the basement!"
