"Bob from Nu Lok was great to work with as he was courteous, prompt and open to all our suggestions. He built a cabinet for our dining area to coordinate with our kitchen cabinets. It is unique and looks great. His price was reasonable and we enjoyed getting to know him."

"We selected Kepner - even though the price was a premium over the next bidder - for exhibited knowledge, professionalism, and quality of the product in the show room.  As is I assume is often the case with large jobs like this there were a few surprises along the way - a cabinet showing up broken, the soffit removal revealing pipes that needed to be covered, and a few other miscellaneous gotchas.  None of them were extreme and we felt that each time there was a surprise that was revealed, Mark Kepner responded with integrity and did not gouge us for any extra added cost.  As the job proceeded there were a few surprises we gave him as well!  The decision to add lights under cabinets, install new light fixtures, add a back splash, and even hang new doors.  Each time Mark was responsive to our needs and did his best to accomodate us in his schedule.  He was able to perform nearly all of the jobs himself with minimal subcontracting.  Overall the job took the bulk of the summer from start to finish, including floor installation, cabinets, waiting for templating of counter top, all lighting and door installations.  And though I can't say it was "painless", Kepner made it as smooth as possible.  About the only improvement I could suggest is that of cleanup.  We were left responsible for tidying up during the process and finally at the end as well. I would have liked to see a bit more professionalism there.  Even though the large scale trash removal was included, there was an additional pickup required at the end as there were some more large items that needed to be removed.  We paid separately for that. A nice touch would have been to include it. Also the quantity of flooring material was overestimated and so we were left with significantly more flooring material than we required.  And were unable to negotiate a reasonable cost of return.  We are hanging on to it and can almost do another full (small) room!  All that said we were very pleased with the quality of the workmanship and the responsiveness of the Kepners.  Mark worked very hard and we are truly grateful.  And in the final analysis I must say, we just LOVE our new kitche.   I would definitely hire them again! <br />"

"I was not pleased with what I saw at the box stores and thought I’d look into having someone make my kitchen cabinets. John not only gave an excellent quote he also helped with custom details I never even thought of. That really complimented our kitchen tremendously. Professional service from start to finish. Highly recommend this company for any cabinetry."

"Representative arrived promptly and assessed our needs.  He said that using our existing cabinets they would replace all existing drawer and door faces with new and custom build additional cabinets to fit our plan.  What surprised me was the cost of this exceeded several estimates we already received for all new cusom cabinets. <br /> We had all new cabinets built and installed by another contractor."

"I called T & T on the late afternoon of 3/2/15 and spoke to owner Dave Thomas about an estimate to remove the snow. He asked if I would be up at 7:00 am the next day as he could be there then. He was right on time and brought a co-worker Andy. I explained what I wanted done. He gave me an estimate for $350 which seemed very fair. I asked him when the work could be done, he said right now. Dave and Andy not only removed the snow off the front and rear of the main second story roof, they also cleaned the screen house and garage roofs. They were also very neat in cleaning up all the snow afterwards.  <br /> I was impressed with their responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism. <br /> I would be happy to recommend their services to anyone. <br />"

"I was extremely pleased with the work. It was done in less than a day and a half, and was done perfectly. He arrived on time and told me exactly what materials I needed to get in order for him to get the job done. He also made suggestions along the way and answered my questions knowledgeably. The work was great, the apt. was left clean, and I am happy with the result. I will definitely call him first when I need more work done! <br />"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in New-baltimore, NY

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
