" We hired JCS Remodeling to do our bathroom/bedroom renovation. Jeff and his team were AMAZING! Start to finish the project was perfect, we could not be happier with how it turned out. Jeff and his team worked with respect and professionalism across the board. They truly cared for our home and the project and had no problem giving their opinions when I asked for them. We have an older home with only one full bathroom on the main floor and no “master suite” so we wanted to completely change the layout of our house. When Jeff and his partner Chris came to quote us on the project I was immediately sold. They had so much vision! At every point of the conversation they listened to what we wanted and spent so much time bouncing ideas with us. It seemed like they were just as excited about the project as we were and I was sold! Angi’s won’t let me post the entire review, but it is also posted on google if you want to read all the good things about JCS!!!"

"Let me start off by saying that these guys are great. They did my bathroom, kept everything clean, and anytime I had question or concern, they were quick to respond. I now will rehire them to do my basement and remodel my kitchen?"

"Truly one of the best experiences we have ever had with home handyman services. Scott came by and scoped out the job expertly and listening carefully to our needs. He is amazingly knowledgeable and offered wonderful suggestions about our overall needs as well as the specific job we contacted him about. His colleague, Matt, followed up and actually did the work. He is a remarkable technician, understanding exactly what we needed (in this case cabinet remodeling and replacement) and followed up ensuring that the work was precise and not only met our requirements but also ended up looing better than we had expected. He is meticulous in his work, but also highly sensitive to ensuring that everything he does leaves the area cleaner than when he began. He gave us excellent suggestions on other work we were exploring. Scott and Matt are really wonderful people. I followed up with Scott with questions, and he said we are his customer now -- feels like being part of his family!"

Customers say: Quick response

"I recommend this wonderful company without any hesitation. I first contacted Wood Trades LLC seeking a deck quote in September 2024, and John and Karin came out the very next day. From day one, John and Karin provided impeccable service. I cannot say enough wonderful things about their communication, transparency, honestly, and reliability. All current insurance/contractor licenses were provided up front, and any change in cost was documented through clear contracts. In addition, they patiently navigated me through a difficult permitting process from start to finish. Once the work was started, I had a gorgeous new deck in just over one week. I cannot thank this company enough for gaining, and more importantly, maintaining my trust through this project. I certainly look forward to working with Wood Trades again, and highly recommend their services to anyone seeking high quality results from a wonderful company. Exceeded expectations!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in New Bedford, MA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
