Customers say: True professional

"Simply stated, the best possible carpentry service you can hire. In building a large deck off of the back of my house (project with a countless variables), Pat at Steadfast Carpentry worked to complete a design to my exact wants that will continue to impress everyone who sees it for decades. Pat demonstrated a deep knowledge and care for well-built and beautiful woodworking, and was able to exceed any expectations of build quality, cost, and aesthetics, whilst working safely and within the constraints of our town codes. I cannot overstate how friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and diligent he has been throughout the entire process. I am overjoyed with the final product, and can personally assure anyone looking for a carpenter that you have found the gold standard with Steadfast Carpentry. It is a true rarity to find the affordability, knowledge, and quality at this level."

"Look no further if you need any drywall or insulation services. Thomas and his team are professional, precise and clean. His work is meticulous! Thomas' work ethic and commitment to his word is apparent when he does what he says he will do and when he says he will do it. In addition, he cleans up everything when the job is completed!"

"Working with Flavio has been wonderful! He is a fantastic craftsman and a true professional -- not to mention kind -- and you can feel the care that goes into his work. He and his teammate Denis were a pleasure to work with. From the first time we reached out to him, he was very responsive in answering our (many) questions! We had a number of doors that we wanted to replace (both interior and exterior), as well as a few storm doors to be replaced. He also re-installed our front door after we discovered that the person who had initially installed it did not ensure it was plumb. This was a complex job which he did with great care and efficiency, ensuring that no detail was missed (as an example, he noted that when the door was re-installed, the door sweep was just barely making contact with the door sill, so he replaced it with a taller door sweep to ensure a tight seal). They finished the front door with a beautiful high gloss paint which was done meticulously! Unlike previous searches for contractors (referrals through family or friends), we found Flavio through reviews on Angie's List, and he is by far the most talented and best contractor that we've ever worked with! We're so grateful to have met him, and are looking forward to working with him on a number of projects in the coming months. He absolutely lives up to -- and truly exceeds -- his stellar reputation. Now we can't imagine working with anyone else!"

"We had Tiger Construction do some work for us several times. They helped finish a basement along with rebuilding a deck and retaining wall. They also helped remodel a bathroom. They were always on time, proficient and fair with price. We would definitely recommend them for any home improvement needs!"

"Great! Ricardo and the team were timely, professional and did great work. We have an older house with some tricky repairs and the crew was able to make the repairs, match the stain and they look great. We paid extra for the "dustless" service - well worth it to keep 99% of the dust out of the existing living spaces - but we still used plastic to seal off the living spaces as an added precaution. Whole job was done in under 3 days."

"We had a really good experience working with Hudson Contracting two years ago when we undertook a big facade restoration project on our landmarked Crown Heights row house and decided to reach out to Asm, the owner, about undertaking an interior project this winter/spring - namely gut renovating our kitchen and bathroom. Admittedly, Hudson Contracting isn't known for interior renovations; however, Asm proved to be a diligent, details-oriented and hands on contractor throughout this process. Upon opening our floors we found 7 rotten structural beams (a homeowner's nightmare!). Asm quickly negotiated a reasonable additional quote to undertake the process of replacing the beams and bringing our refinished basement, a causality of the process, back to it's pre-renovation state. For the kitchen, we enlarged the existing window (involving external facade work), upgraded and added new electric/plumbing, moved and expanded the kitchen entryway, combined two existing pantries into one and installed new flooring, walls, cabinetry and all the other little details that come with the process. The bathroom underwent a more traditional gut with new walls, floors and electrical/plumbing. We also swapped out the existing tub for a standing shower. Overall, the project took about 6 weeks and was very reasonably priced. Asm was on hand most days to check on things, which was comforting. My only complaint was that some of the work dragged out, because various workers were on other jobs and/or unavailable to come during the weekday (understandable since Hudson doesn't have electricians/plumbers on its payroll, but frustrating when you're living in a construction zone)."

"Luis was absolutely outstanding - everything I could have asked for in a contractor.  He showed up on time to review my space before bidding and did a thorough review and discussion with me about what I could expect before the job began.  I live a prewar NYC coop with some challenging issues like uneven floors and walls and damaged subfloors.  He let me know what I could expect and shared a few ideas with me about how to maximize the aesthetic appearance despite the inherent challenges.  Luis and his worker showed up promptly on day 1 of the project, worked quickly, efficiently and cleanly, and continued to do so over the next few days until the job was done.  I couldn't be happier with the results.  Furthermore, he returned again 2 weeks later to seal the bathroom grout and complete the repair to my kitchen tile on the date and time he committed to (I should also add that he took the extra step to go to the tile store to procure several tile samples to offer me options to most closely match the existing floor tile.)  He also made additional recommendations at the time of the kitchen repair/installation that again improved the overall outcome.  As anyone living in an older house or apartment knows, once the job gets started you're never really sure of the issues you might run into.  At any challenging point, Luis called me in to consult on the situation, suggested options we had to move forward and weighed the pros and cons before making decisions together about the best next step.  I very much appreciated Luis's desire to do things "the right way" and in a way that he knew this perfectionist customer would be satisfied versus the quick and easy way.  He was also very conscientious that this is my home (with a very nervous pet) and took every precaution to work neatly, cleanly and as quietly as possible.  All of this plus he was a gentleman and an absolute pleasure to work with.  Should I have the need for a contractor in the future I will not hesitate to call Luis.  I will also recommend him without reservation to my friends and anyone in my building who is looking for a high caliber contractor.  Thank you, Luis.

FAQs for arbor, pergola or trellis custom build projects in New City, NY

Pergolas and gazebos are both outdoor structures, but there are differences between the two. A pergola has a slatted roof that allows partial sunlight to filter through, creating a light and airy space. In contrast, a gazebo features a solid roof that provides complete shade. This key difference influences the comfort and visual appeal of your outdoor space.

Prefabricated pergola kits require one to four hours of assembly, while custom pergola designs take an average of eight to 16 hours. Additional groundwork, such as pouring a concrete slab, leveling the site, and removing obstructions, may extend the installation process to several weeks, ensuring a secure and long-lasting build.

A standard pergola kit ships with everything you need—four support posts, rafters, top runners, support beams, and hardware for anchoring the frame to a concrete pad. Many manufacturers also bundle add-ons like retractable canopies, privacy screens, or modular sections that let you tweak the footprint. Because each part is pre-cut and labeled, the kit helps you—or your contractor—assemble a sturdy, attractive structure without extra trips to the hardware store.
