"Fantastic job. Very helpful in determining best finish and plan. Able to work around our timeline. Prompt and careful work done. Also able to refinish some old water damage and matched existing stairs (not being refinished). Floors look beautiful and brand new!"

"We were very pleased! Zack helped us bring the beauty back to old pine and red oak hardwood floors in a 1957 house. Some areas were badly pet stained from years being hidden beneath carpet. We were thrilled with the results. Zack is very professional and has years of personal experience in the hardwood business. He is personable and helped us decide the best stain selection. He looked at the job as though it were his own house. He was always on time with our appointments and we were happy with the reasonable pricing. We got more for our money than we would have gotten with another recommended company based on the quotes."

"We had carpet replaced in three bedrooms and hallway. From start to finish, sales to installation, everything went without a hitch. The sales manager helped us pick just the right flooring and the installation team did an excellent job. The floors are just beautiful and everyone was very professional and a pleasure to work with."

"Recently I hired Clanton Flooring to install Luxury Vinyl Flooring in my home. Chase was extremely helpful advising me of color choices and products that fit my budget. From step one throughout the installation process his crew was professional, curious, and maintained a clean and safe work area. I was more than satisfied with the end result and with his company. I highly recommend Clanton Flooring."

"We visited the showroom, picked out the quartz, confirmed the price. A representative visited our home to take detailed measurements. I provided my own sinks and he took one, so the cut out would be the correct size. Within 2 weeks a team came to the house to remove old countertops and install the new ones. Team was very efficient, put pads down to protect floors, careful in removing old countertops, installed new countertops and sinks, and cleaned up. Fireplace & Granite provided the best price of all the dealers we visited. Great company to work with."

"Dave called to confirm my online quote request almost immediately, which was scheduled for the following day. He arrived on time the following morning and provided a nice written estimate in my email the same day. Not only was his quote the lowest of the 3 that my wife and I received, he was also by far the friendliest person that we met with. Dave and his crew showed up on time for the job, and without hesitate jumped right in to help my wife and I, who had not quite finished moving all of the large items out of our home. They knocked out the entire job in two days, and even went out and grabbed the new shoe molding for us since we were not exactly sure what, or how much to get. Overall my wife and I cannot recommend Platinum Floors enough! They are not only amazing at what they do, but also amazing guys."

FAQs for wood flooring refinish projects in New London, NC

The hardest wood floor finish is aluminum oxide, but it only comes on prefinished boards. If you want something durable you can add after installation, acid-cured is your best bet. The key to the longevity of any type of wood floor is a maintenance coat when a traffic pattern begins to show in high traffic areas.

Moisture-cured urethane is the most durable finish for homes with pets. However, It contains a lot of (VOCs) that can aggravate pets and people, especially at first. If you’re looking for a low-VOC alternative, water-based polyurethane is your best bet.

Bona sells several highly-rated polyurethane hardwood floor finish products, typically through small, local distributors. Brands like DuraSeal or Minwax also rank well for durability and ease of application. They are available at businesses such as Walmart and Amazon.

You have to seal unfinished hardwood floors to protect them from scratches and stains. The frequency depends on the type, but in general it’s ideal to refinish them between four and six times in their lifetime. This comes out to about every seven to 10 years.

Refinishing hardwood floors costs $1,100 to $2,400.

Wood stain adds a color to the surface. A finish adds a level of shine (e.g. matte, low-gloss, high-gloss) and seals the grain to protect against damage. Some companies, such as Minwax, offer products that do both at once.
