"We went in not knowing what we wanted. Steve was very helpful with product choices. He came out to measure and made recommendations. He gave us an estimate and when we weren't quite ready to fund the project he said he would keep our information. Sure enough 1 year later we contacted him and he still had our original estimate with all of the products we wanted. Once the project was started, Dimitri and his son were amazing and put in very long days until the job was done. They were very meticulous and did an outstanding job. We will definitely go back for our next flooring project."

"David, a salesman for Simas Floors, visited my home before the work was done to see exactly what my hardwood floors needed to be pretty again.  He is very personable and professional.  Jay, Chris, and Robert, who refinished my hardwood floors, did an excellent job; they were prompt, professional, thorough, and stirred up an incredibly small amount of dust.  They explained the advantages of using a water or an oil-based finish; I opted for a water-based polyurethane because a catalyst can be added to the last coat (in this case, the fourth coat) that will extend the life of the finish to 25-40 years.  Although I could have hired someone else at a lower cost, I am confident that I now have the best refinish money can buy, and I won't be moving the furniture out of the rooms for the rest of my life!"

"The cleaning process was typical and everything went as expected based on my past experience with other carpet cleaning service providers. <br /> The one gripe I have with this company is the pet stain spot removal that I had to pay extra for. There was a spot of urine recently deposited in the carpeting by my pet cat.  Chalo, the guy in charge, told me they had a special cleaning agent that was specifically designed for pet urine. He gave me a pitch about the product being a very special and expensive, but he was willing to apply it at his cost for only $10 per spot (there were two). He made it sound like this was some kind of magical product - one that had to be prepared (mixed) in his van. And because of the special enzyme ingredient, it would only last for a few hours before becoming chemically inactive. Of course, aside from the sales pitch, he did state that there was no guarantee it would work. <br /> Well it didn't work. If fact, the spot is larger and darker than it was before the treatment and I can still detect the smell of cat urine when I put my nose to it. I probably would have been better off treating the stain myself with over-the-counter products beforehand. <br /> The bottom line is if you hire B & L Carpet Cleaning, don't pay extra for the magical pet stain treatment (in other words, don't be a sucker like I was). Not only does it not work, but it might make the stain worse as it did in my case. My hunch is that the magical product is nothing more than the contents of the bottle of "Spot Pro" spot remover they gave me when the job was finished. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Newcastle, CA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
