"Very professional and extremely friendly contractor. Alberto and his apprentice Chandler arrived on time and after introductions started their work. Panel upgrade with breaker and wiring installation was performed efficiently with only necessary disruption to home electrical service. Testing completed and panel breaker labeling done from old panel door. Cleanup was thorough and appreciated. I enjoyed the conversation we had during and after the job including my own DIY electrical experience. If I was going to sum my experience with A & A Electrical Contractors LLC, it would be that it is a great model for professionalism and consumer oriented business. I was given more options than other contractors. Reasonable contract pricing. Highly recommended and definitely a return customer for any future electrical needs requiring experienced professionals. "Very responsive business and communicated every step of the way. From what he diagnosed I had a bad wire in the ceiling of the garage that shut my breaker off and wouldnâ t reset. I had no lights or plugs in the basement for days as I tried to figure it out myself. He came in and was easily able to diagnose, fix, and get it all back up minus the one plug that relies on the one dead wire. Iâ ll be putting that in since Iâ m taking my ceiling down anyways. He has all the experience needed and professionalism a master electrician is. Definitely will hire again and will recommend to anyone who needs an electrician."

"Mike re-wired my basement outlets at my apartment. He figured out that all of them were wired incorrectly. Not only did he restore power to my basement outlets, he prevented an electrical fire from the previous incorrect wiring. He also installed a new bathroom fan/light combo, with Bluetooth speaker capabilities and multiple led light colors. He was efficient, fairly priced and honest. Highly recommend! Thank you again Mike!"

"Rick was AWESOME. On-time and extremely helpful. I really wanted to install a bluetooth/ceiling vent in the bathroom and new technology is always a challenge with an older home. Rick made it work and I couldn't be happier to be able to listen to tunes while showering. Very neat, clean and quite. I work from home and he was extremely respectful. He also took the time to give me additional suggestions and information on other electrical projects I am looking to do."

"My garage electricity was out. I called him to get an estimate. He gave me a couple of troubleshooting suggestions for free. I followed them and they worked. Now, how can you not hire him if you had work to be performed or better yet, I thought of some things to be done around the house just to hire him for his honesty. People like him are rare to come by these days."

"Very professional and timely. He was really good at identifying any problems and suggesting fixes for them. Also very patient with all my questions and explaining the process. He installed a bathroom vent fan, a recessed light in the bathroom, and lights over my bathroom vanity. He also ran wires from the panel box to one of my bedrooms and installed more outlets as the room only had one. Helped me get an outlet for a garbage disposal and microwave over my stove. All done within a couple days as we completed other work."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Newington, CT

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
