"We were moving back into the area & hired Carpet Hut over the phone because of reviews on Angie's List. They were great about getting out to our house, measuring, etc. The carpet was all finished by the time we moved into our house. It is so nice to know that the carpet is brand new! Our experience was great & we would definitely recommend them!"

"Flawless. Jack, Kevan and team were courteous, professional, timely throughout and pricing was on point. Kevan was thorough with the initial assessment and scope of work to be completed. He provided valuable information as we coordinated with paint contractors. We had to bump up our timeline of putting our house on the market and Jack called me right away and shuffle things around so we could meet our deadline. The day of the job, we had a huge snow storm coming, but they rolled in with a team of 5+ guys and they had our old carpet hauled out and fresh new plushy carpet installed and out of there within 5 hours. Amazingly fast, efficient, kind, professional and great price! Would definitely use them again and highly recommend."

"It was a filthy carpet in an upstairs duplex apartment that we own. We were not sure it would clean up. Dycarp cleaned it beautifully and it looks almost  brand new. Highly recommend them.

"We contacted Pete and his team to help repair the carpeting in our home that after just 3 years after installation, had begun buckling and bubbling due to improper installation by our builder.  Pete was very responsive to our need and provided us a quote within a day and we scheduled our service.  He is very knowledgeable and his team was very friendly, respectful, and did phenomenal work while taking special care not to damage any furniture or leave any mess behind.  The end result was that our carpet looked brand new and we are now confident that it is properly secured and will last a much longer time.  Thanks Pete & Team!"

"This was my first encounter with this contractor and I doubt I could have been more pleased. Beginning with meeting Ed Ambrose, I was impressed with his integrity. We thoroughly discussed the job and set a date to begin that fit my schedule. I believe most of us measure a contractor on not only the quality of their work but how well they follow through with their schedule and responsiveness. Nothing fell short.
Gary Widlak, Ed?s son-in-law, took the lead on and coordinated the job from beginning with the floor refinishing to the end with the carpet installation. Gary is not just a man of his word but a conscientious professional as well. In my profession in the insurance field, I have worked with numerous contractors and witnessed many deserving of praise as well as contempt and A&B Floors deserves my praise. One of the challenges with the oak flooring was matching the finish with a room off the hall and Gary went to great lengths in applying sample stains to coordinate the match I preferred.
I could go on with the many little things he did to complete the job but summarize by saying that he concerns himself with the details of a job that tend to make a positive impression and he succeeded. I could not be more satisfied with the condition and appearance of my oak flooring.
Finally, the carpet installation by Yogi Bryan went off without a hitch. Great job!"

"It went great! They couldn't promise that it would be perfectly cleaned, but they got the smell out and the few stains you can still make out are hardly noticeable. We've bought several rugs from them and had a few cleaned there. We feel they're honest and reputable, we keep going back to them!"

"the job went very well. They worked late but finished the whole job in 1 day. We went in the
store on a Saturday morning and told Doug what we were looking for, made
a choice and were out the door within 30 minutes. No pressure, and
Doug helped us choose a carpet that had the same characteristics as some
of the more expensive brands, for less money. He could have easily
sold us the more expensive brands, but saved us the money instead!

"Final fit of the flooring was sloppy resulting in shoe molding not completely covering the installed flooring. The vinyl planks in many instances were cut too short which left excessive gap at the baseboard that couldn't be covered up by the shoe molding. The padding underneath the flooring in some instances was visible after installation of shoe molding. I expected better of Cherry Carpet!"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Newport News, VA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
