"I contacted Radon Mitigation with a question about they level check on my system that was installed by another contractor sho is out of business. I sopke to Nick who contacted me almost immediately and resolved my issue over the phone even though I was not a customer of his. He could have easily required a costly service call but was able to determine that the problem was simply that the tube monitor had dropped slightly and was giving an incorrect reading-resolved by simply pushing the tube back in place. In a time where customer service can leave much to be desired, Nick andRadon Mitigation went above and beyond. I would certainly contact them for any future service if required."

"Because of the competitive nature of the Buffalo market, Rick was quick to take my call and schedule a time to do work. He happily scheduled me in only a few days after my offer was accepted (I also called him before my offer was accepted on a different house, and he was willing to see me the day after the offer went through). <br /> Rick was thorough. I was reluctant to hire an inspector referred to me by a realtor, but friends of mine spoke highly of Rick. My fear was that he would do a basic inspection and give me obvious advice. Turns out I had nothing to fear.  <br /> Rick spent about an hour in the basement checking walls, gas lines, water lines, the electrical service, and the sewage. He inspected most of the power outlets, and tagged in his report anything that needed attention. He checked the water pressure, and gave me suggestions on how to fix everything.  <br /> On the outside of the house, he checked the electrical service, health of the roof, the garage, and even noted some odd things that he suggested I get looked at when I take possession because it could give me a headache (wide spacing in garage roof rafters). <br /> He inspected the grounds thoroughly. Brought binoculars to get a great view of every inch of the house.  <br /> On the first and second floors, he made notes of issues with windows (damaged seals, cracks), and evaluated with me on whether they should be replaced or not. He gave perspective on everything. <br /> He is clean too. Gloves and foot coverings during the entire inspection.  <br /> Rick had answers for everything. There was one odd plumbing setup that was difficult to explain. Rick didn't know why the owners did it, but he was able to let me know how to fix it quickly. He also advised me that my hot water tank was old, and that I should buy one now because the regulations have changed, making new ones much more expensive.  <br /> Great guy. Super friendly. Operated quickly. Didn't charge me a dime over what he provided. Additionally, he had his full 45 page report to me the next day (which was a Sunday!). <br /> <br /> <br />"

"I received my radon results in a timely manner. I did not hire them specifically, (so, I cannot say I would hire them again) the local company contracted them for this service. The home inspector I hired, handled this service for me and included the results in his report."

"Alan was punctual, friendly and thorough. He was happy to educate and seemed knowledgeable about older homes. Final report (about 42 pages) generated on the premises; he called later with the results of the radon testing. Price was average/comparable. My only critique is that the final report is a little difficult to read and couched with disclaimers and 'CYA' statements, but I'm guessing that this is par for the course. <br />"

"During a conversion from a 2-family to a single-family home, the gas pipe to the dryer in the basement was overlooked and not connected to the gas lines associated with the remaining gas meter. Z&R connected the dryer to the gas line. They also removed a newer kitchen faucet from the 2nd floor kitchen sink and installed it onto the first floor kitchen sink. Additionally, the replaced the water shut-offs on the 2nd floor sink so that I could demo that sink and counter area entirely. They had the work done within a few hours. All of this was done 9 months ago, and I haven't had a single issue since then."

"Doug suspected extensive roof damage in the first property, found moisture content in the interior walls, and mold growth in an enclosed porch, all likely the result of a leaky roof. The exterior brick facade had also been neglected to the point that the masonry work above every exterior window had to be re-pointed. Doug showed us his areas of concern but wisely deferred to experts, highly encouraging us to seek experts for the roof and masonry work. I took his suggestion, and roof and mason experts also inspect the property. They confirmed Doug' suspicions and gave us a better picture of the full extent of the work. Doug was professional and thorough, he arrived on time and spent almost four hours inspecting the property. After each section of the inspection was completed, he went over his findings and explained them to make sure I understood the issues and what his recommendations were. I was not present for the second inspection conducted by Bill Pappis, but he gladly met my father and conducted himself with the same punctuality and professionalism as Doug previously had. Bill did stop by the property a few days before the inspection to drop off the Radon kit, so that the results were ready by the day of the inspection which was a pleasant surprise. The HomeBook turned out to be more valuable than I original expected. It's great to know you spent $400 and have the HomeBook as your home reference for now and in the future when repairs or upgrades have to be completed."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in North Tonawanda, NY

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
