"We had a great experience having our furnace replaced with Atlas Heating and Air Conditioning. A different company originally recommended that our furnace be replaced and we got estimates from a total of three companies. Atlas was reasonably priced. The estimator Keith was very responsive and patiently answered a number of questions about various options. He gave frank assessments about what would be involved in a two-stage furnace, higher-efficiency furnace, central A/C in addition, or a heat pump. The installer Joe arrived right on time, worked all day, clearly explained our new thermostat, and left the work area cleaner than he found it. He also patiently answered my questions about maintenance. We're still waiting to complete the permit and MERS inspection but overall we've had a great experience."

"Workers were efficient, clean, and pleasant. They described their work and then did it. The following work was performed: 1.Remove registers , clean and sanitize. 2.Clean out duct with Rotobrush to remove loose dust, fluff, particles, etc. 3.Wipe down the inside walls of the vent area with warm water and disinfectant mix."

"Ezra and Charles are very friendly and personable. That is, when they want to take your money. What good is a 12-year warranty if you start ignoring your customers at 2 years. I needed my HVAC replaced. Because the HVAC sits on my roof, I decided to redo the roof too. Ezra and Charles came out and were really friendly so I immediately had a good impression of them. Even though it would’ve been cheaper to go with a roofer and a separate HVAC company, I decided to go with Landmark Construction Crew, aka Landmark Energy Upgrades. I figured it would be a more seamless process for one company to do both. I got this done in December of 2016. The thing with a roof is that you don’t know if it’s a good job or not until it rains so I waited to write a review. Around January 2018 ( a little over a year later ) we got some much needed rain but unfortunately, I had a leak coming from one of my vents. I emailed Ezra and he sent out a roofer. The roofer came, looked at the vent, jumped up on the roof for ten minutes and said he was done. Months later, it rained again, it leaked again, I emailed Ezra again. I decided to take a closer look at the vent and noticed that there was sunlight in the ductwork. I figured sunlight equals gap somewhere. When the roofer came, I told him and he said it’s nothing, probably just a reflection, without even taking a look. Then the roofer tells me that the next time there is a leak, I need to call the HVAC guy because it’s not a roof problem. I couldn’t believe it so I told him that HIS company IS the HVAC guy!! I used one company to do the roof and the HVAC so there is NOBODY else to blame. So, he jumps back on the roof and was done and gone in 10 minutes. About a month goes by and the rain is back and so is my leak. It’s 2019 so it rained a lot this year. Good for California, bad for me. So, I emailed Ezra again. After a few weeks, no reply. So, I email him again with pictures, a few more weeks go by and no reply. So, I call him and he picked up the phone. He sounded surprised to hear from me (probably didn’t recognize my phone number) and I start telling him about the leak. He said he didn’t get my emails but just text him my address and he’ll send somebody. A couple of weeks goes by and nothing. So, I text him again and after weeks and weeks of waiting, no reply. I’ve emailed, called, and texted so, at this point, it’s very obvious he’s avoiding me. If you are looking for a friendly company that is willing to take your hard-earned cash then Landmark is for you. But if you’re looking for a company that is accountable for their work then look elsewhere. I know I am."

"Shady and poor quality. Rando was assigned to replace my failed Furnace which they did under First American Home Warranty. During this work, they had to disconnect and replace the drip line which exits the furnace and which takes the water condensation to the outside of my home. First they clogged the drip line which caused the drip pan to almost overflow before I noticed the issue. At this time, Rando admitted to the issue and sent someone out to repair it. The guy they sent was the original guy who came and provided the estimate for the furnace replacement. He had to cut the drip line pvc pipe and send a snake down the pipe to clear it. However while putting it back together he did not glue it properly so the drip line is seeping water into my home. Upon calling Rando which claims to 'warranty' their work, they are lying and claiming that they never touched the drip line pvc pipe which is a total lie because I have pictures of them doing exactly this. They are refusing to answer my calls or call me back and just denying any responsibility. All I want them to do is just fix their issue and re-glue the seams of the pvc pipe that they did themselves. Honestly it would probably take them 15 minutes since they should be professionals at things like this. Meanwhile during the actual Furnace replacement work, the installers damage the threshold to my attic space by gouging the walls and frame around the entrance to my attic space. Rando initially acted apologetic about it and stated that they would make it right and repair the entrance/frame after the installation work was complete - but upon work completion I could not get them to do anything about it. Now I have a dripping condensation pipe that they won't lift a finger to resolve their own quality issue. Shady and shameful service which is likely why they only do warranty work instead of running an actual sound business. If First American assigns you Rando HVAC, call them back and refuse to use them as a service provider. Trust me that they'll screw you somehow and when their poor quality causes issues down the road, they'll ghost you and do nothing."

FAQs for asbestos abatement projects in Oakland, CA

Asbestos is a group of six naturally occurring mineral fibers once commonly used in building materials because of their resistance to heat, electricity, and corrosion. However, in 1975, research confirmed that these fibers cause mesothelioma and other cancers, leading to strict usage laws. If your home contains asbestos, removing it can prevent long-term health effects. You'll often find asbestos in the flooring, ceilings, pipes, and roofing of homes built before the 1990s. Common asbestos-containing materials include vermiculite insulation, vinyl flooring, millboard, and corrugated roofing. If you suspect you have asbestos or any of these materials in your home, it's important to hire a reputable abatement company to perform testing.

Currently, there is no federal licensing mandate for asbestos removal contractors. However, certain cities and states require certification and specialized training. For example, in some areas, contractors handling asbestos must receive an Asbestos Handler Certification. Be sure to check your local laws to ensure any contractor you hire meets the necessary requirements.

Homes constructed before the 1990s can conceal asbestos within building materials, and testing provides a definitive answer. You should have your home tested by a certified asbestos inspection service. This professional evaluation identifies hazardous materials and determines whether removal or encapsulation is necessary. Testing safeguards your family’s health and supports smart budgeting for remediation.

Federal law does not require you to disclose the presence of asbestos when selling your home. However, certain states and local jurisdictions impose disclosure regulations that you must follow. Testing and professional remediation confirm that hazardous materials are properly managed. This proactive approach not only meets legal requirements but also protects your property’s value and buyer health.

Asbestos removal affects a home’s resale value because hazardous materials can deter potential buyers. Having toxic substances present lowers buyer confidence and may reduce the property’s value by 1% to 15% if not addressed. Professional remediation ensures safety standards are met and preserves marketability, protecting your long-term investment.

Grants exist at both federal and state levels to support asbestos testing and removal projects. Local housing programs may also offer financial assistance when asbestos is discovered during home repairs. Meeting certification and testing standards is required to secure these funds, which help to manage overall project costs while ensuring safe remediation.
