"We had a great experience with the Lux Renovations and Owens Corning team. The whole process was very easy from designing the space, selecting colors, and having a contract manager who organized the entire basement remodel including all the trades and inspections. We were sold on the Owens Corning materials for the basement and that they were engineered specifically for a basement space. Would highly recommend this team for your basement remodel needs."

"Frank and his team were great! I appreciated how responsive and flexible they were when renovating our basement. They paid attention to details and were willing to do some small handyman tasks that needed to be completed but that I didn't feel comfortable doing on my own. We have a dog so their team being pet friendly was a nice plus. Would recommend"

"We hired Mitch and Bob to finish our basement. They gave us a good and through estimate. Mitch made a couple visits prior to starting the job to make sure we were comfortable with the design, layout and timeline and was very open to suggestions. What is great is that they only take up one job at a time and are committed to it. They were on a consistent schedule. The quality of the job is excellent and everything was very collaborative. Would definitely hire them again if needed and recommend to others. They also took care of many smaller requests we had during the time they finished our basement. They were professional and reasonably priced for the excellent quality of work they did and extremely reliable. Thanks Mitch and Bob!"

"We are delighted with the work Total Home Solution performed on our house.  They installed an in-law suite in our basement, complete with bathroom, full kitchen, bedroom, office, and remodeled laundry area.  When meeting with contractors for estimates, Tom seemed the most clued in to the needs of older adults, and even made points I had never thought of despite my being a nurse.  He was very careful to keep everything within the original budgeted estimate as much as possible, which allowed us to expand the project as we went along in the process.  We chose to do the painting ourselves to save money, and they left us with extra spackle, a sander, and paint fan, even though they didn't have to. <br /> I also have to extend my thanks to the lead on the project, Chris.  I could hear them working from upstairs, and one of the subcontractors was a little, shall we say, salty.  Chris remained totally professional, and got all the workers to come together to get the job done right.  Lastly, but most important of all, was his humanity and kindness.  My father passed away unexpectedly the week before construction was to begin, and the funeral was out of town.  As part of our contract, we were supposed to have all furniture and personal belongings removed from the construction area prior to work beginning.  We got home after midnight the night before, and Chris and his team arrived at 7am.  We had not moved any items, and even though we broke the terms of the contract, Chris stepped up and moved everything himself.  He was so kind, and did everything he could so we would not have to worry about anything during a difficult time.  He was also very responsive throughout the project, and even immediately answered emails I sent 9:30 at night the day after he got married!   <br /> We had such a wonderful experience I would highly recommend Tom and Chris to anyone looking to do work on their home, and will call on them for any future home renovation needs. <br /> *Note: I did give them a "B" for responsiveness because they were a little slow in the beginning, but as per other reviews, they had some people out and were running short staffed in November/December.  We chose to begin the project after the New Year and it was smooth sailing after that. <br />"

"My wife found Dan through a Home Advisor search. We did a complete full bathroom remodel/reconfiguration. Dan left an immediate overwhelming positive impression the first time he came out. He provided design and reconfigure consultation that we were expecting to use a separate designer and/or architect for. His past work speaks for itself and he has a tremendous amount of experience and examples to pull from to offer suggestions that aligned with our tastes just from speaking through the project with him. Dan is extremely professional and courteous and maintained impeccable cleanliness and constant communication throughout the job. In addition to his promoted services, Dan is skilled in all areas of home improvement and completed some other handyman services throughout the project. I highly recommend him for any project. I plan on contacting him for any future work I need done."

"It was a wonderful experience. Matt knew what he was doing. He listened to what we wanted and made sure we got what we wanted. He had suggested we visit a Cabinet maker store in Lancaster and after doing that we found the perfect cabinets for us. His work is excellent. He is very efficient and neat. Even with our changes he was able to maintain and keep the project on schedule. On a personal level he and his helper were very nice. I would highly recommend Matt to anyone and we are having him come back to do other projects."

"Couldn’t recommend highly enough! Rick and his team did an excellent job completing several projects in our home including building a gym in the previously unfinished section of our basement, transforming a den into a bar room for entertaining, and coming up with a creative and perfect solution to put an office in our basement. Rick is a great, trustworthy guy and does beautiful work! "

"My experience with F&M Custom Home Builder was excellent. Denis was great to work with and communication during the project was excellent. The crew Harry, John, and Tim were amazing! The entire team was very experienced, knowledgeable, great atten tion to detail and very clean. They remodeled my tiny 1960s bathroom into a beautiful, functional, updated bathroom and I am so happy with the finished product. Thank you!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Oreland, PA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
